I have repainted my lower unit.
    -Removed the prop
-Scuffed the lower unit with with 80 grit.
    -Masked off all other areas
    -Wiped it down with Acetone
-Used DupiColor paint for Automotive Wheels.

Easy Pleasy and came out looking close to original.

If engine is still under factory warranty (should be) get it to your dealer for correction.

Please see Announcement at top of forum and provide engine serial number.

I was gonna say, Mark- looks like speed-blasting to me.

In all seriousness- get a dealer to take a look at it.

If you would, please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the Required Info (serial number) when posting. Thanks!

I have the same issue with my 2020 200 hp Fourstroke with less than 325 hours. I think Mercury should replace my lower unit OR at the very least repaint it to like new. Dealers don’t give a hoot about these type of issues, so taking where I purchased or to local authorized dealer is a waste of time.

Ps. my previous engine was a 2003 Yamaha HPDI/VMAX I bought new and used hard for 17 years…never had an issue at all with paint peeling off from anywhere on the engine.

This engine cost way too much for this to be happening. DEFECTIVE PAINT AND/OR POOR PAINT PROCESS at least for the batch my engine was part of

Same issue on my 2020 Verado, only not as severe (yet). I only have about 6 hours on the motor.

If your engines are still under warranty take them back to the dealer for correction.

If you haven't already, might also want to review the Announcement at the top of the forum...

This is a known issue and Mercury should fix it under warranty. Take it to the dealer and complain hard enough if you have to.

If your engine is under Factory Warranty, get it back to your dealer for inspection. Poor paint adhesion is easy to identify.

Just a reminder: ONE (1) engine/poster per thread, and serial numbers are REQUIRED when posting.

Why bother painting it? The black would match better. BTW, my 115 is similiar.

My engine is white and the lower section of the engine + lower unit is silver; ie. purposely manufactured/packaged (and sold) to be silver.

My 2020 just started to do the same. One month out of warranty and Merc said "good luck" . I probably won't worry about repainting unless I go to sell it.

Curious whether those words came from Merc (directly) or a dealer?
