91 Champion with 91 135 Mariner performance
I have a 91 champion 168 I believe with a 135 Mariner. I cannot figure out how to make it run good. It had a 19 pitch high 5 prop on it when I got it and the hole shot was amazing but it was really slow. I’ve played with other props and have no hole shot. The top end was a little better but not what I was expecting. I have put a 6 inch jack plate on it and I’m currently running a 21 pitch prop. The hole shot still isn’t good but the rpms are really close to being right when running wide open, but I’m going slower than when I had the high 5 and it porpoises real bad now. Any advice?

A 23M Yamaha is the ticket for that set up.

That 135 was the original 2.0 150. It has some characteristics that you have to understand and your setup is dictated by.
It’s a gutless little motor that must turn 6,000 rpms. Those are your setup rules.
So, Matt’s advice on props is correct that is your best choice out of hundreds of choices.
Go find a 23M pro series Yamaha with the Mercury washer and castle nut kit. Then check back and one of us will help you get it setup correctly.
