Eric I removed all the factory installed analog gages and wiring going to them years ago and replaced them with Smartcraft gages that daisy chain together. No issues.
Thanks Mike, I’m trying to replace my gauges with a Lowrance elite 9, only gauge I think I’ll keep is the gas gauge.
Yes.
I just redone a 2011 Ranger. I removed all gauges and added fuel tanks to my Lowrance too. I added them through a harness to my Mercury but have seen some folks buy a Lowrance product to tie tanks through NMEA. I also took key pads out and added switches but could have stayed with the key pads with no issues.

My Z21 has a combo gas/Trim gauge. If I unplug this and hookup the NMEA cable from the outboard to my HDS 9, will I get fuel level through the NMEA network?

I have a 2008 Z20 and I removed all factory gauges (when new) and replaced them with Evinrude iCommand digital gauges (which includes fuel). I used the stock fuel tank selector switch but added a fuel level sensor at each tank. I think I also had to add a shunt for the trim to work as I recall.
ciao,
