I losen it until it is ready to fall out on it's own but keep holding it in place then I rip it away real quick. I never get oil on me from the drainplug but the filter is a different story. I use a similar technique on the filter but it leaks some around the filter before it is unscrewed all the way.

It's in the pull away... One other person described it but you hold it in place but loose the pull/twist away quickly. I usually get some on my hands unless I'm really careful but often that's from the plug itself or a drip before I pull it and since I frequently wear gloves since used oil is a carcinogen I just pull then off and I'm good.

What I rally hate is when you drop the filter into the oilpan!

I really don’t mind if I get a lil bit on me... I hate getting oil on my frame when I pull the filter off... my truck has a little catch pan built in right there and I’ll put paper towels but it seems to always still make a mess... I hate that the filter won’t drain out..

These two solve it. Pad catches everything and oil flows right through with no splashing at all.

i seen a video where they put one of those big plastic baggies around oil filter and then unscrew and all the oil goes in the bag.

Like Squib said, get a Fumoto Valve, its super easy and absolutely no mess. As for the oil filter, I take a screw driver and poke a hole through the bottom and let it drain before taking it off.

Plastic bag over the oil filter works good.

I do the quick pull on the drain plug after it’s unthreaded like other said.
I loosen the oil filter a few turns and let it drain what it can and then go back to it and remove it slowly and keep it upright until I get it to the oil pan. Depending on the angle of the filter, sometimes it works better than others.
I typically wear rubber gloves because used synthetic oil smell is hard to get off your skin.
I’ll be trying the plastic bag trick mentioned above next time.

Get some of those long sleeves the AI units use to inseminate cows, or which veterinarians use to pregnancy check cows with. Go right up to shoulder, never get oil on hands or clothes again.

Fumoto with the barbed outlet. I leave 10" of vinyl hose on there (ziptied to the frame) and drain right into a used 2.5 gal oil jug.
