I rarely fish a jig for largemouth anymore, and if I do it's usually around less dense cover. Thick dense cover it's usually a tube, a sweet beaver, or a combination tube/craw that I make. I fish a jig for smallmouth a lot though.

Grass/wood I go with the plastics. I fish a jig around docks.
If i'm fishing i'm pitching 99.99 % of the time & always have both tied on at all times & give both a chance. If i have to flip i will, but i'd rather pitch & i'm very accurate so it's my favorite way of fishing either one.
Plastics for bites. Jigs for bigs.

I rarely fish a jig, I just prefer soft plastics, here in Florida, you spend half the time with a jig getting it stuck in the grass, alot of guys fish them here and Ive been beat by them, but I prefer plastics, so much more efficient in our weedy lakes.
Plastics. ... I absolutely cannot catch a fish on a traditional jig.

I usually have both tied on. I mostly pitch soft plastics and then I’ll try a jig if I get no bites on plastic or if I think I can upgrade to bigger fish. Also, it depends on cover. If I see something that I think a jig will work, I’ll pitch it. We have a lot of well-head cribbons and bulkheads down here. Jigs often produce in these spots.
Wood I pitch a jig.
Grass i pitch plastic.
I fish a jig 95% of the time when pitching. I have so much more confidence in a jig over any soft plastic pitching/flipping bait.
.
Jigs for light cover or 20' foot grass lines. Duck Weed, Pads, misc crap we get up here, texas rig.
In my local lake, the good bass are in tangled brush piles on the bottom. Would never throw a jig in that mess as it would be one cast and gone. T-rig with the hook buried deep is the only way to get bait down in the woodpiles and still lost a lot of Tungsten this year. Probably going to use lead if I use heavy flipping hooks and light wire hooks with Tungsten. Cutter Craw and Spicy Beavers were the best for me this year.

You brought up something I was wondering about. Do you all keep the point buried deep in the plastics?
Also do you pull the plastic up over the eye of the hook?

Pitch mostly beaver style plastics unless I’m also skipping under docks. Then I’ll go with a jig.
For my brush piles, I bury them and I do pull the bait over the top of the hook. Keep in mind I use straight shank Flipping hooks (Trokar).
If for some reason I were to use a regular wide gap I would push the hook through the bait and skin hook on the top but that rig won't go near the Brush piles

For me it's time of year, water temp, and cover!
I flip a jig about 75% of the time, and a T-rig 25%! Around the spawn I like plastics better as I think they hold on a little better. Early in the year when water is still 40-55 degrees I always flip a jig and never plastic. After the spawn I just want something big and bulk as they are hungry and eating!!!
I'm probably 75/25 with the jig being 25 but I'm bringing that up. The jig just catches big fish and will get bit when theres 400 other boats flipping plastics around grass lines.
