2021 Tracker Drum Brakes - Free Backing?

I just took delivery of a 2021 Tracker 195 TXW with drum brakes on the trailer. The delivery guy said I would have to use the surge brake lockout pin when backing up. I have the 7 pin so I thought he might be wrong thinking I had the electric reverse lockout. Now I read the documentation and it says I MAY have free backing brakes on the trailer. Can anyone tell me what kind of brakes I have? I was able to back into my driveway which has a slight incline without using the lockout pin.

Drum brakes don't need a backup solenoid. Disk brakes do need it.

This is true IF they are a free backing design which the OPs trailer will have.

They are free backing. "Free backing" drum brakes actually do apply some braking pressure in reverse but not much. I found that putting the pin in was not needed and I have to back up a pretty good incline. I can imagine that if you had to back up a very steep incline you may need to use the pin. The actuator does not have a solenoid for hooking to the reverse circuit but you could probably add one if you want. IMO doing that is not needed.
