Is this a bad power pack?

2004 Johnson 175 carb, ran fine all morning, crank up to go to another spot, when I come off plane it misses one time and cuts off and will not crank. I do not believe is is getting spark.

Could be a pack but the stator will do that too on that engine.

You could trim up so the prop clears the water and see if it will start. If it does start trim down and try to accelerate.

Tried that as I was trolling back in, did not make a difference.

If you have a timing light you can crank the engine at the house and check spark and timing just keep the encoder shaded.

I don’t have a timing light, it is worth mentioning that the night before it rained several inches and I was at an away tournament so no way to cover it, also my key switch has no kill switch and never has. Possible bad switch? It had ran fine all day prior to this. Just took off and when I set the boat down it like missed and cut off and will not crank at all.

Just for grins,,can you rotated the motor by hand??? Does engine starter engage and turn the motor over/does the starter not do anything when you try to start it/motor not turn over? Reason I ask, some peoples description of doesnt crank is different than ours...meaning the motor spins over but doesnt do anything or visa versa.
