    Praying '99 J150PLEES has really overheated-what next?

My Johnny 150 got plugged with muck and really overheated. After cleaning the water intakes and letting her set it started and got us back to the ramp. After inspection this morning the drain nozzle on the port side cylinder head has melted and the temp switch on the starboard side is melted like it could be just pulled out by the wire. My concerns are after replacing the obvious needed items what else should I do to it? Everybody has said these motors are 'bulletproof' and I hope mine didn't take one in the head!

I would do a compression test just to see if all looks healthy with the engine. Pull the thermostats and flush the engine good. If all looks good then I would spend the money on replacement parts and I would include a new water pump in the deal also. The gurus here may have a better plan or add to this....

Good news. I didn't do a comp. check, but I did pull all plugs and regapped. It fired right up and ran. I'll get into specs and all needed parts. Yes probably did weaken the thermostat springs. I did flush it and it peed good on the muffs, but I know better. Thanks Bassmeister!

Okay here is the update. On the compression test the starboard side has: top=100, mid=105, bot=95, and the port side has: top=105, mid=100, bot=pumps up to 75 but will not hold pressure. Still waiting on a 2 wire temp switch to install. Motor starts and sounds good on muffs. Any ideas on what do with the bottom port cylinder?

Your motor will never perform correctly with only 75# in #6 cylinder.

Is there a quick fix or just rebuild it? Should I pull the head and check the O ring? Could it have a stuck ring in that cylinder?

jeffbob, what I'm about to post is a joke, my attempt at humor so please take it that way, the reality is your engine needs to be rebuilt.

You could order a 500100667 can of compression, just pour it in the low compression cylinder and in 15 minutes your engine will be all better. In case ya'll missed it, this is the humor part.

I'm gonna get that darn can of compression, heck maybe even two cans, and give it the juice. Wait 15 minutes and send it!-LOL Thank you ELGIN for the dose of reality with a lil humor. Does anyone have an opinion on Monty Racing doing a rebuild? I'm thinking MOD I for me.

Monty is one of the best for working magic on the Eagles, the motors not the band.

Is there a chance that the cylinder head is leaking? Could I check it with starting fluid?

He's grasping for a glimmer of hope my friend. We know the answer but he's hopping. My dad told me when I was young, wish in one hand and crap in the other, see which one fills up first.
