    18TRX VS 189TRX

I see the hull weight and length and width are basically the same, what are the biggest difference other than horsepower ratings between these boats? Also why is there a different horsepower rating I wonder? I understand options could make a price difference, but not sure about the horsepower rating.

Ill give it a try. Both models should be the same hull. The 189 has a lower HP rating and fewer included options to keep the price point down. You can compare included options on the Triton website. The 18TRX has a higher hp rating and includes more options as standard with a high price point,

I have a 2014 18XS which is basically the same hull. Back in '14 Triton rated the 18XS only to a 150 hp, The boat is wide and heavy and a 150 will push it in the 53-56 mph range. I didn't get a jackplate, Great holeshot but not a speed burner. But the 189 is a lot of boat for the money.

So your decision Point is speed expectations and what options you want. If you want a nicely equipped boat with a 175 on it at a great price point, get the 189. If you want to go faster with more included options, get the 18TRX with the 200.

The hull is stable (it is a heavy hull) and fishes large. I have had people in my boat who did not believe it was a 18'8" boat. I fish Chautauqua and Lake Erie and it fished great in big water.

I was looking at a 189TRX at my buddies weigh in...it’s my next boat for sure! The layout just made sense to me, and it was a beauty! His was all black and silver, which is a tad bit hot in Florida, but she was a looker! I figured it was a way to offer a less expensive alternative.

I have a 2020 18trx on order. When we went to the dealer we looked all over the 189 to get all our info and an idea of the layout etc since they basically the same. Very nice boats for sure and definitely seem bigger when you in it than what it is. I opted for the 18trx because I wanted the 200 merc. Its mostly convenience features that are standard from what i seen. Nicer gauges blinker trim and hot foot 6” jack plate. Things i wanted that saved me from having to install it myself.

The 18TRX with a 200hp was a very close 2nd to my 2018 BassCat PII that I ended up buying. My buddy has a 189TRX so is was very familiar with the layout. His has a 150 ProXS. To me the boat feels under powered since it is a heavy and wide boat. He wishes he opted for the 175hp. On a good day he will get 58mph. In the end I almost ordered a 18TRX. One last phone call to a BassCat dealer up in Alabama in which they dropped the PII price $1500 sealed the deal. I couldn't be happier with my PII, but feel I would be just as happy with the 18TRX with a 200hp.

What kind of speeds are you seeing with the 175? Wonder how that would compare with a 200?

With a 175 I got it out today.
    46 degree air
    48 degree water
    light load
    One Guy (200lbs)
    5700 rpm
    65.3 mph on gps

I think it might be overpropped will either try a 22 tempest come spring or a 4 blade possibly.

That’s good to hear. Working on a deal for mine. Just have to nail down the trade amount and drive 10 1/2 hours to get it.

Those are impressive numbers. Not sure what you can improve on, what is the max RPM for that motor?

The max rpm is 6000 I just didn’t have much of any tackle so I figure with tackle and another guy and full fuel it’d slow down and need a smaller prop maybe

I just got a 2021 189 trx with the 175. With a full tank of gas (41 gal) all my gear and with only 9 hours on it I was able to get 63.6 (with the wind) lol. Water temp was like 65 or 67 don't remember exactly. I am running a 22 tempest plus and 6950 to 6000 rpms via vessel view mobile. Haven't tested with full livewells but it comes out of the hole amazingly fast.

Impressive! What trolling motor is on the bow and do you know the PTP measurement?

I have a 80lb thrust ultrex. I think I went up a little to high on the jackplate and was maybe 2.5 P2P. RPM's high and lost speed. I just came down on it and didn't measure so am not sure what the P2P is now. Guessing maybe 2.75 or so.

Thanks chatabass. Loving it so far. Mine came with a Lowrance HDS live 7 on the console and while identifying the types of transducers I noticed it already had ethernet plugged up to it. I just found the other end. It was already run up to the bow panel. I had a hds 9 live installed up front so all I had to do was plug it into the 9. Boy! Talking about easy networking! I think I am going to like having them linked together.

For sure! I have networked hummingbirds, being able to share way points is a huge plus.
