    Current draw

Hi, I have a 2016 150HP Mercury outboard SN 2B202320. The motor draws 3 amps when it is not running. I disconnected the little 2 wire connector that goes to the alternator and the draw goes away. But when it is running the alternator produces 13.4 volts so I have a hard time believing the alternator is bad. Could someone offer a suggestion on where to go from here? Thank you.

Likely a problem in the alternator's Voltage Regulator.

I would be inclined to replicate those results several times.
