    I'm back in a Nitro

Well after 13 years out of the Nitro family. I'm back in with a new to me 2013 Z9 with a 2021 250 Pro XS. What kind of performance do you guys think i can expect from this rig and motor combo. I'm thinking mid 60's tops. These things a wide and heavy.

Be interesting. Assuming your running a 23-24p Fury or a 24 Tempest? Have not seen a Z9 repowered to a 4 stroke.

I saw high 60s, 67-69, and would touch 70 with an Optimax on cooler months. My 08 z9 as a 74mph boat. Owned several Z9s, most lived in that 67-70 range.

I'd expect a little more than that, maybe the same.

My old 911 with the 225 was a mid 60's runner. I would think you'd be able to hit near 70 with the 250.

Well I took it out and it needs a prop. Currently has a 23p 4 blade on it. I can’t get any bow lift so it was plowing like crazy. Topped out at 51mph. I need to get back out there and spin a couple of props to make it right.

I would think a 23p Fury would be the right prop, maybe a tempest 23-24p.

Also what is your P2P measurement?

Ok got out and spun some props yesterday. Its like this boat is glued to the water and refuses to lift.

First prop I tried was a 3 blade 23p Fury. Trimmed out the motor the Vesselview gauge was telling me %28 I could only get like 5450 RPM and speed was like 51mph no lift at all

Second prop I tried was a 3 blade 21p Tempest Trimmed out the motor the Vesselview gauge was telling me %28 I got 5800 RPM and speed was like 55mph no lift at all

My current set up and what came with the rig is a 4 blade fury 4 23p running low 50's and no bow lift.

I just got the rig back from the tech to ensure I'm getting %100 throttle and to make sure the motor is in good health. Done before I did these tests.

Do you have a jackplate? That is very slow something is not right on your setup.

Go with a 23" pitch Tempest, it gives you much better bow lift than a Fury.

What is your PTP? How many batteries and what kind? Also I trying to remember does the z9 have setback built into the hull or not?

It has a 10 inch hydraulic plate. No built in set back on these boats. I have 5 batteries in the back 4 100ah lithium and 1 group 31 AGM. I don’t carry a crazy amount of tackle and have 2 graphs on the bow with an Ultrex. No 360 or torrent or any other stuff of the TM other than a Livesope transducer.

Have you measured the PTP? One option is trying a set of 2" spacers on the motor. It seems to me if the motor is 100% and the PTP is correct (just because you have a jackplate doesn't mean the motor got mounted at the correct height). You have a balance/weight issue which the spacers may correct it works on a lot of Tritons.

Thanks. It’s going back to the shop Monday. They just made sure that the motor was making full throttle and in good health. They suggested to try some wedges. Let see what happens. I told them I don’t want it back until it’s set up proper.

Some 2-4 degree wedges may help if you are running out of trim. I know my Nitro likes a lot but I have a different hull.

Let’s see what happens. I will keep this thread posted of what was done to get this set up to air out and what the hang ups were. I’m not gonna be chasing this all summer that’s for dam sure.
