Was in a tournament and had to leave the livewell switch on livewell manual the entire day for the live-well to stay full. The switch near the throttle was on AUTO.
When I'm about to get the boat on the trailer to go weigh fish, I turn the swtich to recirc. and it holds the water appropriately.
? when I turn the switch on LW timed it loses water, especially when I'm running down the lake with fish.

You may have a cracked valve or fitting. Wass there water in your bilge or did the bilge pump kick on?
Or maybe the cable is not moving the valve to the correct position?

I had a similar problem with my cable. It was real stiff also. Finally broke. Called SClark and got a new cable and all is perfect now.
