    Used boat prices............OMG

The market is CRAZY RIDICULOUS.....20 year old boats selling for anywhere from 10-20k. I toyed with the idea of selling my 2021 z21 to lose the monthly boat payment and use the money I'd make to buy another rig but I would barely have anything left for upgrades, electronic changes, etc....guess I'll keep my rig.

You are correct. Some of these prices are almost laughable.

Bought my 2003 4 years ago paid 14k for it.
Probably have double that in upgrades.
It dosent take long to get a ton of money in one when your talking $3500 Trolling motors, $2000 each for graphs, Lithium battries, power poles etc.

I have come to the conclusion that im jsut keeping mine and doing upgrades etc.

I am tempted to sell my 2013 Cougar but I dumped $11K in the motor last year.

I almost got rid of my Triton to get a more general purpose bay boat but then I realized if I did that I'd never be able to afford a bass boat again. Same boat is 50% more than it was 4 years ago

I see 2016 Trackers like mine listed for more than I paid for mine brand new and that's with bone stock rigging still on them. They do have fewer hours and look way less used than mine though but I bought my boat to use not sit in the garage and take up space.

They can get it too in some cases since the new boat prices are even more outrageous!

I've thought about doing the same but then realized how much I would have to pay for a newer one.

Asking price and selling price are entirely different.

Lets flip the coin though. Even for those that are asking and getting high dollar for late model rigs , what are you really going to get with the extra 8-10 k you get for your boat? For example: My 2004 Ranger 519 vx., Merc 200 EFI (270 hours) I purchased the boat in a depressed market and paid $18,000. Two 998 HB's, 80#Ultrex, Cover, and in very good condition. I added a 36 volt Ultrex, Helix 10, and Pro Series II power poles.
I have been offered $25,000 as recently as last week on the lake and last year $28,000. If I sold the boat for the increased price of $28,000, now what??? Even if I added 10k, what am I getting for $38,000, not much. Heck , if I add 20k I guess I could upgrade from a 19' Ranger in great shape with most of the bells and whistles i would like to a 20' footer but it would be a hard search.
The used market is crazy but I feel it's mainly due to the insane cost of new boats rigged with the expensive toys.

I bout a used 18ft 2000 javelin in 2005 for $8k. I doubt you could find one now for that price. Almost 20 years later.

    I bought a new 2006 Champion 198 and paid 43k
Upgraded the graphs to color units at the time
And it had a Yamaha 225 HPDI.

Now days you cant buy an 18' boat for that.
    Crazy how things change.

In 2003 I bought a '98 Viper Cobra for $14,500. Sold it in Dec of 2019 for $13,500. It did have upgrades of PP, newer trolling motor and graphs. Bought another boat in Feb 2020, added upgrades and could probably get more out of it than I have in it now. Only thing is, I would have to buy another one.

I believe the demand for new boats is slowing. Talked to a dealer that canceled his Spring order. Has not had one call since the dealer meeting and boat show. Last year by this time he had had 13 calls. His boat rep (won't mention the brand, but it's big) said the same. May take 3 a month. Compared to last year when he could barely keep up.

They are not going to stop doing that unless a lot of folks start defaulting on the loans and they start seeing major losses.

In a way I think we are our own worst enemy in that by growing the sport the new and older folks willing to pay the increased prices. If folks in large enough numbers refused to pay those prices then a decrease could probably be seen.
