    Electrician Question

I am installing a chiller/heater for my pool. I am responsible for the electricity. I know nothing about electricity, but I am told it will need a 60 amp breaker. The breaker box is external and on the same wall as my pool equipment. The length to run the wire is approximately 60 feet long. Any ideas what I should expect to pay both union and non-union prices? Thanks.

Good on you for not burying a walmart extension cord. I don't know the prices in your area, but you will sleep and play better knowing it was done right.

Depends on how many union guys are leaning on the shovels, taking a break all day.

They told me they have a $1,500 allowance, but it shouldn't be that high. $750 sounds much better.

Too many variables but I think you’re probably close to $700 in material alone.

Go ahead and lay an extra pipe and pull cord for later us, since you'll already have the trench in.

220, 2 hots and a neutral would be black/red/white + bare or green for ground

Why trench? Everything is on the same wall. 60 amp chiller doubt it needs a neutral

Current electricity is run through a plastic pipe along the wall.

6 gauge wire, if in conduit, thhn #6. 2 blacks, white, green. Green doesn't have to be a 6, maybe not the white (local codes and NEC If the controls are electronic for the equipment you will need a neutral. Romex should be 4 wire, black, red, white, green or bare. Don't remember NEC off top of my head.

What size conduit is already there? How many circuits already in conduit. Still doubt you need a white, likely has a control transformer that’s rated for 240v. #6 is likely good along with a 10 green. Chiller/heater will likely have a bonding lug on it. Needs to bond to your other pool equipment

He didn't say if it was 220 or 110, but did mention 60 Amps so assume 220.

Material $…. Double the price of it….Add 12-15% for labor regular guy makings a living…. Add 75-90% for union not better work but have been told they do they owe dues and always paying when someone passes away. Crazy.

I'll simplify it for you. Find a insured electrician.
