Jim Cramer.
He has show on CNBC called Mad Money. Great show and is full of knowledge on investing. There are some out there who don't like him because of his past or because they bought on his recommendation and then they lost money. He's not perfect. But I find him entertaining and he was the reason I got into the stock market to begin with.
He has some very good books for the beginner: Real Money, Stay Mad for Life, and Getting back to even.

I think everyone should have a 3-6 month emergency (Murphy's Law) fund before they consider putting any money in the market.
Then read all three of Cramer's books and other books/research before putting money in the market.
Just my opinion.

Good idea on the emergency fund. Because we will at one time or another lose money. The stock market is risky. And every kind of investment carries risk. You don't want to use money that you may need to fix a car or pay a vet bill.
Only use money that you can afford to lose.

Some good books for the investor/trader that already has a basic knowledge of how the market works.
Fooled by randomness is one and the others are Market Wizards and New Market Wizards.
Market Wizards books are interviews with some of the most successful traders and investors of all time.
These guys (and girls) are the real deal and these books will help you.
Good luck!
