Been a crazy year for shallow fish on the north and south flats

Prespawn fish bite good this time of year starting in late April, but nothing like this year. I'm talking 139 fish in two days. The total was mine alone with him not far behind. Yesterday I counted 55 fish after 5 hours while dealing with a 15-25 mph wind. Good thing for a 15# anchor! My buddy managed to catch a 4.5 lb pickerel (mine was over 3 lbs.) and some nice crappie over 12" though the average was only 10"-11". Also caught were y.perch, sunfish, a few bass, white perch and this fish??

For me, catching fish means testing out various soft plastic designs I come up with. Here are a few that proved themselves to be worth making more.

The Kut Tail worm rigged on a 1/32 oz jig head proved a winner for 4 species three of which are shown:

All fish were caught in water 3.5' or less - some near shore. Jig heads were 1/16 oz or lighter with hook size suited to the lure cast. The north end had pad starting, but the south end only had an island of pads. Fish were schooled in different areas and many caught in minutes one after another!

We call that fish a "shiner" or a "roach"
