    17 V20 w 250 New Pro xs

    Hello all.

I recently had yet another power head go on the ol’ 250 optimax pro xs and after a 18k quote rebuild I decided to repower. 2 year old boat to me so this was PAINFUL. Questions on breakin and Rpms after. (I know) I did read everything first lol.
My question..picked up my boat after repower. Took to lake to do breakin before a tournament. (Missed the heat cycle note yikes) I did 10 min varying throttle. Then 1 min wot. I read the manual to mean push water and keep it under 4500 rpm’s. So that’s what I did. Repeat cycle til 2.1 hrs (smart craft gauge) 2.1 abundance of caution. I finally get to hammer down and see what she’s got. Can’t go over 45 mph and wot planed out etc. I took it back to dealer immediately and they checked 100% throttle (yes) but found a pinched fuel line. I took out today. All great. Wot 5800 69 mph completely empty boat full tank, 200lb me. (The v20 is built wide as hell but 69 seems slow) So question really for Don. Do I need to do anything differently having had that issue during break in or continue with breakin plan 2-10 no wot over 5min? I need this baby to last 1200hrs..lol 2nd question Running a Fury3 blade 24P should I try to change prop to get closer to max rpm for health of engine? My buddy recently bought a 300r and he said he was advised they loosen up over time and rpm could increase. Thank you so much for any and all help

need to try a 23p fury3 or a tempest maybe. a bravo1 prop would be great a few mphs slower but would work great on the big hull likely

lots says the 4s needs some hours to loosen up and reach full power also?

I “care” about top speed but much more interested in longevity. Is it worth $900 for a prop to get closer to that higher rpm range in terms of the health of the engine

I just ordered a brand new razor XL from Mark set up just for my boat and it was $618 so you should be able to find a better deal than you’re seeing apparently or trade 24 for a 23 also a possibility

I'd get a 23P to put on there and run it. Don't forget to try different heights BECAUSE that Fury needs to be a tad deeper than Tempest Plus, etc.

You'll be much closer to RPM target and may well get better performance as well. While there is some mechanical wear-in of the engine, I don't think you're going to see anywhere near 300 RPM's.

As usual Don is right! I ordered my 2018 with the 250 but never tried the 23 fury. Remember this was the first V8 that my dealer had seen so they started with a 25 fury four (69.8-70 @ 5780 3.75" on the Bob's) but went to the 24 fury 3 (71.8 @ 5840 2.25" on the Bob's). Thats the main prop I ran ( 200 hrs. ) until I went to the 300R, I like the 26 Bravo fs the best but the 24 and 25 Fury 3's are a tick faster on the 300.
