    Starting issues

    175hp 2 stroke. 1999 efi

so I just installed a bracato power acu. Boat runs great. The only issue is starting. It seems to crank well the first time I start it when I go out. However when I stop and fish and go to move places it is very stubborn to start. I have to give it plenty of choke to get it to eventually go. The bulb is primed. I’m wondering if I have some sort of pickup problem in the gas tank? It has new plugs as well as a new starter.

when I do get it cranked and go to put it in gear it generally shuts off and I have to go back through the process again.

could it just need some tuning??

Compression test. correct plugs properly gapped and sync & sync.
    check fuel pressure
Test TPS and adjust to spec.
    Thank You Leon Pugh

How are you giving it "Plenty of Choke"?

If that's the only thing you changed, put the old ecu back on and see if it still does it before you start hunting other issues as mentioned above. Those brucato boxes are supposed to come pretty well dialed in but the several I've been around needed a lot of adjusting and tuning to get to run right, and still didn't have the manners of a stock box. Haven't seen one yet that ran 100% right out of the box. They're pretty rudimentary compared to the mercury box.

^^^^^^ +1 agree , engine must have BR8HS-10 plugs , test air temp sensor this ECU uses it for cold start enrichment

It did this with the old ecu. The new acu works great it just didn’t help thr starting.

im not revving too high on choke. About a 1/3 throttle. I will try that air temp sensor

So you're advancing the throttle, NOT "choking" it.

That would make sense... and isn't surprising as I believe (been about a decade since I even looked at one of these) that the ACU does not use the TPS, correct?

This would make air temp even more critical.

Would thermostats play into this at all?

You guys are always so helpful. It’s greatly appreciated. I look forward to giving an update soon. Bracoto also sent me some info on testing the air temp sensor. And cold enrichment. Very nice. I’m excited to see what results surface.

7.1 ohms at 80-85 degrees with the old air temp sensor.

I wonder if it could be high or low pressure fuel pump?
