    Mercury optimax oil synthetic blend

I have a question, I got a 2.5 gal jug of this oil from someone who had an optimax failure and went with a 4-stroke. My question is the color of this oil from my gallon jug is different, he said he had it a few years the older is a lighter color. red pouring it into a clear measuring glass. My new gallon jug is a darker red, does anyone know if they might have changed or added some additives in the last few years? was going to use the older oil for mixing in my don's cocktail and adding to fuel......Thanks

Optimax Oil is usually NOT "red". More of a tan/brown color.
