    Angry 2024 No Flounder Season

Looks like multiple sources on social media are reporting no flounder season this year for us. But it sounds like the commercial guys can still get theirs. Our natural resource should NOT be a jobs program.

Didn't they say that last year and then at the last minute, they opened it up?

Yet you and others are fine with reporting your harvest?
Bottom line is until the Coms are kicked out and Shut Down, Recs will never have a chance.

Yes, if they have hard data showing that the rec guys aren't catching and keeping that many then maybe we'll be able to have a regular season again. I really don't understand the not sharing of data mentality. Once they can compare the recreational catch versus the commercial catch then that's something real to show the regulators.

Where have you been for the past 40 years in understanding the Rules and Regulations concerning Recs vs Coms?
They do not give a flip about the Recs. Any data you want to give them will only be used to further restrict Recs. If you don't believe me, then please explain why the Flounder Season is closed to Recs? Also there is strong talk about closing Trout season.

Yup, I agree reporting catch info will only have negative effects on recreational fisherman. It is utterly insane that there isn't a flounder season. Last year we caught tons of them every time we went out on the Pamlico. No stripers, no flounder, closed mullet season previously, next trout, hell eventually they won't let you fish anymore LOL

I will also add, I don't believe those numbers. I think that those numbers are lower than actual yields. There is no reason for Coms to report the actual harvest, as it would only be a negative effect to their business.

Commercial fishery is worth $1.7mil.....lets just buy the commercial fishery out so theyll leave the recreational guys alone. Recreational anglers bring many times that $1.7mil into the economy.

There are some commercial fisherman that are contributing to elected officials campaigns and that is having an impact on the decision making.

Could we say the same thing about people who put on tournaments?
A mistake on your part does not constitute a emergency on my part.

Looks like the Wildlife Commission told Marine Fisheries to suck it and has stated they will open a 4 day flounder season the first two weekends of September.

That fact that they did something is positive. No, you don't to go keep 10 every day of the year but at a bare minimum it sends a message that there is mismanagement going on and something different needs to be done.
