They have a long way to go with hydrogen still. If I was was a betting man it won’t replace battery powered at least for a while. California has had hydrogen for a few years. Ev is still more popular.

Hydrogen has to be highly pressurized and super cooled. It’s not a simple
process
Governments want ev's so they can flip a switch and shut you off if you fart too much from eating beef or say something they don't agree with. Yes I'm wearing my tinfoil hat lol
You know who likes hydrogen? The fossil fuel industry. It takes alot of energy to make hydrogen useful for vehicles.
But hydrogen seams to be a step backwards. Can I refuel a hydrogen car at home? How expensive is it? Whats the cost per mile driven for hydrogen?

Burning hydrogen has its own set of limitations. This guy has a lot of great videos. Apologies to those that take pride in mathematical illiteracy as he does use basic math extensively.
Also, most assume that getting hydrogen is as simple as boiling water but most industrial hydrogen comes from natural gas. Fuel cells are interesting though.
Without an evolutionary leap in electrical energy storage, which we have not really seen seen since the invention of the battery, its going to be hard to practically replace burning gasoline or diesel fuel in many instances for passenger vehicles.
Now, the same guy as above did a neat bit on the new Tesla semi that makes it seem pretty viable. If you can find a charger for it of course. Sorry, more math.

Follow the money trail. It all leads to federal income tax. The more types of energy the more lines of revenue it opens. The feds are borderline complicit in letting industries spawn and grow and placing a chokehold on the cash flow once its reached the point of necessity.
