I was referring primarily to fish on SI ..... At the higher frequency the fish image will likely be smaller due to the increased resolution .... kinda like the difference between what fish look like on DI compared to what the look like on 2D.....That's not a bad thing.
Decreasing range or zooming should result in a much better fish image.

The dedicated DI element in the transducer is another thing all together .... it should definitely give much better DI images.

Facebook reply to user complaints about not allowing these updates to the gen 1 units

We understand your frustration, however in this particular instance, we have made significant hardware changes to the control head and transducer that does now allow this from being a free software upgrade - e.g. Imaging is now all digital and CHIRP capable.

Do we know yet if this applies to the Onix or just the Helix because I would certainly buy a new transducer to get those images on my Onix?

I'm not concerned with trying to get MEGA on my G1 Helix 10di, but I was hoping they would release an update giving the G1 Helix (other than 12 of course) a 2d and DI Chirp upgrade. I know it's cheap Chirp but it would've given me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

This is interesting .your saying that those pictures in post #143 are better than what you get from your Onix. (Even that di shot)?

Not sure if that will work. I only asked them if the helix transducer will work for the new unit and they said it wouldn't I would need the new transducer for the mega scan to work. You would need to call Hummingbird to ask that question. The reason I called is because I ordered a new boat and I need to know because I wanted the new mega scan on my boat .

Doug, could you please post some 2D shots. This would better illustrate how well the g2 transducer performs.so far, from what I'm seeing in the imaging shots, looks like those eliments probably are low Q (low noise). It does appear that the g2 units (coupled with this new transducer) are able to send more power out into the water (fixed frequency or sweeping frequencies) with equal, low noise return.what I'm saying is,for the price range of these units all looks really good imaging wise.I would like to see some 2D shots also please.

I sell and demo Lowrance and Humminbird. I have spent several hours with Garmin on my boat. As of the new Gen2N models there is little fence left UNLESS you like the bells and whistles of a touch screen.

I can't tell you how many folks come to me for a demo ride thinking they want another brand until they see the Si of the Helix. With the dedicated Di imaging on the Si units it won't be fair during demo runs next year. In fact this has changed how I am purchasing demos for 2017.

or customization of screens or map chip sharing between units or quickly labeling waypoints

I think I am going to patient here as I have a hunch there will be more surprises in the days ahead.

Also, I am going to wait for some more real world pics to come in on this new stuff. In all honestly, these images look little too hot for my taste. Don't get me wrong these pics look awesome, especially if I was looking for very specific contrasts/structure but, I can't see how this isn't going to be way too hot to read on featureless hard bottom stuff.

Again the jury is still out for me as there is simply not enough info out there yet.

Look at the 4th screen shot in post #1. The bright to dark difference done with the Sensitivity setting looks no different that what current models do to show fish using Amber 1.

Most of you guys don't use radar, but it looks like new radar was released at the METS show in Amsterdam. I've been waiting for this! Can't wait to see if I can update my ONIX's too!
