why should BASS increase payouts? People are doing all they can to make it to the "elites". 9 opens, packed with hungry fishermen just waiting for a chance.

100%. At the end of the day its a business, they want to take in as much money as possible while spending the least. While the payout aren't really great, when you have a full field and 175 guys trying to qualify through the opens, why change?

This is correct, or at least was and I would guess it is going in the wrong direction.

A good friend of mine actually did try to buy B.A.S.S. when they eventually sold it to ESPN a while ago. He was primarily in the magazine business so it was a good fit at the time.

His feedback was that in the real business world, it was a very small business. Tournaments turned a marginal profit, mag was a small profit etc. In his words the Classic had real value as a marketing tool and event but the rest from a business perspective wasn't much.

Everything is about perspective, B.A.S.S. is massive from an anglers perspective but really a small / mid-sized business in the grand scheme of things.

I realize that but they were pretty minor changes overall. Have you seen their audited Financials, do you actually know what their net revenues are? If you do then please share cause I'm interested. It's a private business and the owners are in it to make money plain and simple, it's not a charity organization. As stated above, they're having 0 problems getting guys to pay entry fees for all 9 opens so apparently it's not that bad.

BASS needs to decide what their brand is. MLF does come across to me as more professional in image and image means a lot. Having a morbidly obese weigh master who can’t tuck in a shirt allowing ( some say stagi g) a WWE looking guy in fur coat drink out of a boot and smash beer cans on stage …. If that is BASS’s brand … it ain’t gonna go far and I think MLF will separate in brand share with more. That was such a cringy moment, still shaking my head. It’s just my opinion and don’t look for agreement

I thought it was a good opinion. I don't care what he did but it's very cringe.

It’s all speculation man. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, nobody knows their financials, including you. I’m just stating my opinion that if life was so peachy at BASS then why did the majority of their field leave? I’m not naive to what promises were made and weren’t fulfilled, but it doesn’t seem to me like 50 of the worlds best bass anglers are dumb enough to be that gullible. Obviously there were problems, and I think most of the problems were financially related.

Exactly!! A few of them at least had enough sense to quickly realize the grass wasn't greener and returned to the organization that put their name on the map.

they left with the promise of free entry fees. I am sure there are a lot of good stories on how that played out.

I think that is correct, but at first they didn't. Like I said, all of what happened in between would be fascinating to know. Like BASS, MLF is not hurting getting anglers. How NPFL intends to hang around is another story. There is no way they are making any money.

when they originally left, BPT promised no entry fees. That wasn’t financially sustainable and it came down to either cutting payouts or start paying entry fees again so the “anglers” voted for it. I put “anglers” in quotes because it’s been mentioned by a couple of the anglers that the angler owners votes significantly outweigh the rest, so whatever the owners decide to do that’s what happens regardless of if it’s what the majority want

Well Full Swing is documenting the split between Liv and the PGA. I think a Full Cast documentary following the BASS and MLF split might draw a couple thousand viewers!

Ike has mentioned he will write a book when he's done. I hope he doesn't hold back and opens up about everything. It would be very entertaining for us Bass-aholics.
