Rupp’s 1952-53 squad was nailed with what amounted to the NCAA’s first death penalty (cancelled season) because of payments to players.

In 1976 the NCAA said the Wildcat scholarships would be limited for two seasons because of recruiting violations by coach Joe B. Hall’s staff.

There were recruiting, ineligibility and payoff scandals during the Eddie Sutton tenure and Sutton had to resign. An assistant was banned from coaching in the NCAA for five years.

DanCard.....We did and we fired him immediatly. Notice our sanctions weren't close to those that Cal left behind. I (and most IU) fans were ashamed and embarassed about it.....the difference with UK fans is you love Cal and will defend after he leaves you in shambles!

I think you forget what happened to Eddie Sutton. His name is still cursed through out the bluegrass. IF Cal gets UK into major violations, then he will be vilified for years. With that being said, he wasn't implicated in either the UMASS or Memphis scandals. He didn't force Marcus Camby to take money from an agent. And he didn't force Derick Rose to cheat on his SAT. Both of those are strictly on the player.

In Rose's case, he was cleared by the NCAA before the season. How many coaches wouldn't play a player like that if they were cleared. Answer, ALL OF THEM, Tom Crean included. The Memphis deal was a total screwing by the NCAA.
