Re: 1996 Champion Re-build Log w/ Pics (Ritchie)

One last question. Did you remove the decals off the boat before buffing it out or did you go over the top of them? If you removed them are you planning on putting them back on or leaving them off?

I did remove my decals. I had to because I tried to compound around them and accidently got into them and tore them up. I've decided to leave them off. I like the sleek even look plus it's really cost prohibited. I'll put a pic up later. I used a heat gun to remove them.

I did compound over the stickers on the motor and had no problems. But the Champion stickers had the black ink come right off, the silver flake stayed in place. THEY LOOKED LIKE CRAP W/O THE BLACK HIGHLIGHTS.

Is this the same guy a while back where the seats were done and didn't come out too well? If so, did you have the same shop do them over? They look great now.

yes, those are the seats that the shop re-did. much better, but still not worth $400

Boat is really looking good. The seats look good, especially for under 500. I was quoted 590.00 in my area and my bench seat would be much easier to rebuild.

What did you do with your old wheels?

I did not see a post stating that you got the steering wheel off. All you have to do is back the nut off until the stud in not protrudeing through the nut. HWile you have a friend putting constant pressure on the wheel like he is trying to pull it off hit the nut with a hammer and the wheel willrelease. Just make sure that the stud is protected by the nut. By the wat the boat looks great.

Haven't started steering wheel and dash yet. Decided to spend a few days at Fork this week. I will get around to more stuff next week.

Well, I did finish the back and front carpet. I decided me and the wife would go out to Fork today. I got the boat thrown together enough to be lake worthy for a day or two.

Good on 'ya for takin the family fishin'!! I wish my girls could go more than they do!

The boat is coming along nicely. I have one question: Did you remove/ not re-install the seat post on the back deck? I noticed the hole in the "before" pics, and not the "after" ones, so I was just curious. If I didn't have a place for my Dad to sit in the back, boy would he be p!ssed!!

    Great job!

And it doesn't get any better than fishing with the kids!
