If I remember, doesn't McKinney have a brother that does not have that accent? Or is it just someone with the same last name?

I can tell I am fighting a losing battle with this accent. It does exist but the south will not relinquish its hold on it to the northerners. However, I can assure you there very much is southern accent presence in Paducah.

There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

i just did a quick search earlier and read where someone wrote this.. didnt go any further so if its true or not im not sure.. someone else did comment "im a historian and what you said is true".. no idea who they are so who knows ha..
a fair amount of Illinois history and my understanding is it has a lot to do with the manner in which Illinois was settled. Southern Illinois was settled far earlier than northern Illinois/Chicago, and the people that settled here came largely from either the east - Kentucky and Tennessee, who in turn came from Virginia and the Carolinas, which are largely "southern" in culture - and the south by way of the Mississippi - Arkansas, Mississippi and Louisiana.

Whether Mckinny’s accent is real or not, I haven’t ever heard him speak any differently, unlike Swindle, who changes his accent or talks in a different way depending on who’s camera he’s in front of

Interesting. I think we are getting somewhere. We may get this mystery solved in the next couple threads about this!

I can say with experience that if you go to the American Legion in Fairfield Illinois and drink beer with the locals you will in fact hear plenty of southern drawl.

So what you are saying is that his ancestors are tourists from KY, TN, VA, NC, SC, MS, AR, and LA?

Indiana has all three accents. Southern =, south of Indianapolis to Ohio River, normal midwestern in central Indiana and distinctive northern, Chicago/Michigan when up around Valparaiso/Gary/Angola. I'd have to guess Illinois is the same way.
The real question is why doesn't Scott Martin have a deep southern accent???...lol.

Me and my entire family was born and raised in southern IL., Murphysboro, Marion, Anna, Grand Tower, Carbondale, Johnston City. When my Dad and I moved to central MS in 1976, where there's true southern accent, everyone made fun of how I talked and many said "you must be a Yankee because you sho don't talk like a southerner"

So it's all in how you hear and interpret how someone talks. But I can say I've never spoke to anyone from around the towns listed above that had Treys accent

I don’t know about that…but I wouldn’t doubt Martins notoriety and probable large scope of information available to him in legal methods due to that notoriety probably pissed a lot of people off. I doubt anybody is crying that he is out.

I just find it interesting that folks who aren’t necessarily from that area are defending his accent, then You have people who live there saying they’ve never heard anyone talk like him in southern Illinois

You mean the rule that's been in place for 15 years?
No need to go after Scott at all, he was nowhere near the top of the AOY standings since he showed up in the Elites, his info wasn't all that great apparently.

I think Joel is busting my chops about a conspiracy to get Scott. Which I don’t believe, but obviously a bunch are glad to see him go, and Zona mentioned he probably wouldn’t have been back based on performance.

Question for Zona: Had the tourney water boundaries been established & provided to the Elite Anglers before Scott made the phone call? Lisa Talmadge told me (in response to an email inquiry) that she had not yet established said boundaries as of 25 February 2025.
