Any chance you can post pics of the cracked heads? Just curious to see.
I don't have them but my Yamaha Tech showed me the pics he took and sent to Yamaha. Cracked linear to the valves in both heads.

Personally, if I was going to re-power a boat, I would still go with Yamaha. I know you hear horror stories, but I hear them with all the outboards. My dad is on Skeeters prostaff and he gets a new boat every year. He and several of his buddies have sold a lot of boats over the last several years with a SHO on it and none of the new owners have had any issues that I know of.

Just saying, that on this board alone there have been 7-8 cracked heads on Yamaha SHO's in the last month... FACT

Like Yamaha’s just a scary situation with them. Don’t know what I would do if I had to repower mercs have their issues too Suzuki seems reliable but slow. Just don’t know
Oh I also forgot to mention the power trim and tilt pumps going bad on brand new units. I have called multiple large dealers to get input on these issues around the country...more going on then you think.

You can't give facts on how many Yamaha's have problems vs other brands based on BBC members unless your using that new math they teach in schools.
My SHO 250 is a 2011 with just over 300 hours. God willing it will keep running.
when you see this on the water stop and say hi.
I'm giving facts about Yamaha. I never said one word about any other brand other then Yamaha. Reading comprehension on these boards is often lacking...
It could be steam pressure building up in the heads after shut down. Bass boats have ALOT of start up, run to next stop and kill engine jump up on front deck. BC the engine is open loop cooling when you shut it off you loose pressure on the water in the system. Without pressure on the water it will boil at 212f, if your block is around 200 at shut down it will be around 240 before all the water has drained down past the water line. Bass boats sit so low in the rear most of the mid-section is below the water line so it may take longer of gravity to force the water out. Water slowly draining out of the engine could be starting to boil causing steam pressure in the cooling system cracking the heads. I know most offshore rigs only kill their engines when on anchor, as anchoring is done at slow speeds the engine is at idle temp when shut off. This only my opinion of what maybe the cause of the problem and why it affects bass boats more then most.
I always wanted a SHO to replace my OX66. Kind of glad I rebuilt the OX.
