Thanks Greg - will try to call tomorrow morning - thanks for the trust!!
I have met very few really bad people who bass fish. Can count them on one hand. NC521VX and I get complements from other guys on how we conduct ourselves on the water in big tournaments. We dont crowd people even when they are on the brushpiles that I put outWe do this for the enjoyment and to help with the gas bill. My wife and daughter love helping me with jigs. Heck my wife only wants to throw a jig or buzzbait all day even when I'm killing the spots on the shakey head.
Greg I know I should throw the worm/jig combination more than I do, but I normally just fish it with glass bead and shake it in brush. This seems to work better for me. Not saying it is a better technique, it's just a confidence thing.
I do know a lot of guys, like Devofish, throw the jigheads a lot more than I do, and they have good success with them. If I was going to throw it, I would definately throw those. Nice ....very nice![]()
I still have quite a few Slider heads, and fish them sometimes, just hate the hooksbut the technique definately gets strikes when nothing else will.
Normally, if I am fishing slow, I am pitching the jigs, often when I should be throwing a worm instead![]()
Actually, the jighead I use for my football heads has a 35 degree bend, but the principle is the same....you keep the hook point inline for more power and a better hookset, with less chance of the fish throwing the hook, and seemingly much less effort.

Don,
You are absolutely right about the hook angle. Learned a hard lesson on that. Most of the old timers on the tour use a straight worm hook for worms, craw worms, creature baits etc. Simple reason they hook and land more fish. I had a huge bass, biggest of my life 11+, at Jordan break a gamakatsu hook in the kink at the eyelet.![]()
If you pitch/flip, then your bead is the way to go.
I'll have to try that this year

A buddy is saying this technique is really starting to shine right now on steep banks and river channels using the heavier heads 3/8 and 7/16. Throwing up to 15 and pulling it off, boat sitting in like 40'+
Yeah that technique works well on those steep bluffs. You can really find some good concentrations of fish in a small area sometimes, during the winter, and I use the same areas during the summer months at night for the first few hours agter dark before the fish move up into the shallower areas later in the evening.

Just like a spot remover but about $1 less per 5.
Guys these jig heads are the bomb, I think the iceing on the cake to make us start making our own was fishing a t on wylie in june and I lost about a 7-8lb'er on the jig head (the kind you buy at bps with the small hooks) well after that is when we started throwing around ideas about what to try and Greg got the stuff and started playing with them. I have had some days were all they want is a black head then some days non painted then others brown head, it really is crazy what little triggers these fish have. I have pulled up on a spot and pulled 5-10 fish off of it throwing these alone. I even caught a huge shellcracker on it last year on wylie!!
On a side note we are going to have a little get together on Norman the 22nd any of you guys are welcome!!
We have tried those stand up heads as well. Not to slam anybody but they hang up in the rocks and brush piles a little more than I like and also they tend to roll on steep banks. We also noticed a lot of missed fish because of the hook angle. We don't use those types any more. A big spot hammers a bait. If you recall when B.A.S.S. had a tourny in Alabama Yelas and Brauer were catching big spots that were not hooked they just held the jig in their mouth and fell off in the boat.![]()
Also it is very difficult to feel a 1/4 oz head below 10' if a breeze is blowing. Check out my price compared to theirs. Try both and compare the results![]()

GregC -
sorry missed your call again - tried to call ya' back. Did you get my info. alright?

I beg to differ about feeling a jighead deeper than 10 feet. I use a 3/16 ounce 90 deg jighead everyday and feel it quite well. It is all in the presentation. If you check out my site, you will see that my clients catch a good many big spots on 90 deg jigheads. I personally have weighed in over 20 pounds of spots on a number of occations. My clients catch over 3000 spots each year and a good many of them are on the jigworm technique. Yes we use the spotsticker with wide gap hook but I am not trying to see you them. Just trying to understand why you feel this head is better than another. If you light line fish, which most people do with a jigworm, you dont want the heavy hook as in the picture. You want a light wire hook for penetration. With a thick wire hook, you need more power to drive the hook in.
I am real interested in why you guys feel a 60 deg hook Is better than a 90 deg hook with a straight worm. The "idea" and "appeal" of a jigworm presentation is to have the bait working parrallel to the bottom. Other than that, its no different than a texas rig.

Man I havn't thrown a t-rig in forever. IMO the appeal of the jighead is it spirals on the fall and it stands up off the bottom waving it's tail to the fish in a natural manner. We use 10lb mostly on the jighead because of rock and brush piles we fish. Our spots have 40 grit for teethWe have tried over 20 combinations of hooks, line, heads and rods. Probably in the neighborhood of 1000 hrs of fishing this technique to get it right. We have noticed the 60 degree head has a higher hook up and land ratio than the other styles we have used. I fish the light wire long shank 1/8oz 90 degree with a finesse worm around docks 10'> on 8 lb line when the bite is off, however on deep brushpiles usually go for a 5/16. Some people refuse to throw spinning gear hence the heavier hook and head. The heavier jigheads are doing well on steep drops keeping the trick worm in contact with bottom and better feel in the wind. Carolinakiller is fishing a tourny sat high winds expected, bet you he will use some of my 7/16 oz. Afterall he does hold the state record for smallmouth something like 9 lbs 4 oz? (he's catching 3 lb spots and 4 lb LGs using the heavier heads right now. JL had his big fish bite on the fall
peace out would love to fish Lanier sometime![]()
Don,
got your message, working on the order, should ship Monday.
Greg
Ryan, as I stated in my post, I rarely ever throw a jighead worm combo. I just prefer to shake a small worm in brush, rather than swimming it most times. I know the jighead works, it is just not something I am comfortable with I guess a confidence thing. Day in and day out, I will just use a 3/16 brass weight and glass bead and shake the pi$$ out of it.
I do like to throw the 35 degree bend jigheads with Hula Grubs though as I honestly think it gives me more hookups. Again, maybe it is a mental thing, who knows?

Greg i want to thank you for getting those jig heads out so fast for the tournament that I fish today. we finished second was out of first by one pound but we did get big fish and won just as much as first place. we would of taken first place easy today if I had of performed better. I pulled it away from four fish before I landed the first one. then I broke two off then because of my stupidity I let another 4lb fish come off. If it had not been for my partner being solid all day the results may not of been so good. There is not doubt if I had of fished better we would of finished first and won big fish. I still ended up catching the big fish though. 3.78lbs. all in all a good day and the jig heads performed flawless just wish that i could of. thanks again. and that smallmouth is 9lbs 7oz don't forget the other three ounce's![]()
My bad Terry on the HUGE smallmouth
Glad they worked so well for ya, so much for the heavy hook theory.
You coming to Norman the 22nd?
Greg i am afraid that I want be able to make it I have another tournament on the 21st and it would be to hard on me to fish here on the 21st and then travel all the way down and fish there the 22nd. I wish that I could I really enjoyed fishing Norman and getting to meet all the guys in person maybe next time. And when you can I need some 1/4 and 5/16 jig heads. As far as the light hook theory goes it might work for some people who fish a certain way and have great success with it.But for me your jig head is the best that I have ever used and I have tried several the long hook makes the bait stand up higher and on those days when the bite is short instead of my worm being bit off at the hook I catch fish. And your hooks are so sharp that the hook set can be much lighter with better penetration. Some people may not like them because they have success with a certain jig head and may not want to change. But I am always looking for something better to improve my catch to miss ratio and I can say without a doubt that your jig heads are the beat that I have ever used. And if some people don't feel they need to try a great product just to see if it does help or it doesn't then in my opinion its there loss and my gain thanks again for a great product.
Greg....I still want those jigheads....I just keep getting brain farts during the days, and forget to call.....but now,I've got your number pinned in my work van.....I'm not going to forget again![]()
