figured I would post now that I have some true numbers and the boat set up right.

1992 286 Pro Tournament single console
1992 Mariner Magnum II 150
6" Vance manual Jackplate with the prop shaft set at 3.25 inches below the pad
23p Trophy plus prop

67.3 mph GPS at 5600 RPM with full fuel, full load of gear and just me in the boat
65.2 mph with two big guys full fuel and full load of gear, livewells empty

The holeshot is excellent and it takes off like a rocket once on plane. For an 18 foot boat it is very fast and almost too fast. The trim is very sensitive. I probably need to tweek my setup some like jackplate height but I am satisfied in the performance. It's fun to drive and will keep pace with some of the bigger boats.

Hey Mississippi boy I would say you are almost like me. I am also running a 207 Limited but I have a 225 Mariner Super Mag!! I am running a 22 pitch and can hit about 65 at 6300 RPM when I got to a 24 pitch that I have, I think its actually a 26 I can barely hit 60 at around 5500.. I would say you should try a 22 or 23 Pitch.. I am wanting to try a 23 or 24 personally.. Let us know what you get from the bigger prop.

What RPM's is your 150 running with a 25p prop. Which prop are you running. That sounds like way to much prop for that motor. You should be running around 5600 rpm if your not your losing performance. My boat is running a very healthy Mariner 150 that is carborated and I can run 65 loaded all day long. I am running a 23p Trophy plus turning 5400-5600 rpm.

Couldn't tell you the rpms, the guage never seems very acurate. But I do know it doesn't seem to rev out as much as the 150 merc I had on my last boat. That was a old black max 2.0L tho. I do think I could drop down a prop or two in size. It came with the 25P Tempest on it when I bought it last spring. The boat also is a FS (fish and ski) which I'm guessing weighs a bit more than the straight up bass boat. How long is your boat? I have a friend running a 277 with 150 evenrude intruder, and 23P Raker and with almost no gas and just 2 people he can barely squeeze out 60 61. We are both new to these type of boats both just bought them this spring so any tips are very appreciated.

I JUST BOUGHT MY FIRST BASS BOAT, ITS A 1998 SPRINT 207 PRO WITH A EVENRUDE 200HP OUTBOARD. I TOOK IT TO THE LAKE AND REALLY LIKED IT. I WENT BACK TO THE LAKE WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND FILLED LIVEWELLS AND THE HOLESHOT WENT AWAY. SEEMED TO TAKE EVERY HP TO GET IT OUT OF THE HOLE. FINALLY MY FISHING BUDDIE SAT ON THE BOW OF THE BOAT AND IT MADE IT A LITTLE BETTER. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON PROPS OR ANY THING ELSE ? I DO NOT TOURNAMENT FISH AND TOP END SPEED IS NOT A MUST FOR ME, I AM OLD AND 40MPH IS FAST ENOUGH.

I would try a prop with less pitch! It will give you better hole shot and since you are not worried about top end you should be good to go.

Put a 6 inch manual jackplate on that boat. Reprop it with a 23P tempest and you will not believe the performance difference. Take the time to play with setting the jackplate height. Start at 3.5 inches below the pad. Play with the PVS plugs on the prop to get the holeshot you want. Make sure if you put a jackplate on that you install a water pressure gauge.

My boat will holeshot and plane out in less than 5 seconds with a full tank of fuel and two big guys and gear. Set it up right and you will love it.

trroscoe: Those are some really good numbers for a 286 with a 150. The 286 is a quick hull though and they really like the Trophy props. That small gear case on the Mag II helps out on the speed some too, as long as they stay together.

So I guess I need to get my plate down. Now live on Lake Chickamauga in Tennessee and have room to play. Jacked the plate up where I am about even with pad. Have a 24p 4 blade and was able to hit around 60 at 5800. Raised the plate to get the RPMs up but seemed to have lost speed. Going to drop plate back down to 3.5 below pad and start all over with my 22p 4 blade. I feel like a 225 super mag on my 207 limited DC should hit close to or just over 70. Any thoughts?

You probaly need more prop than a 22".

I also have a 24... I am going to do some checks with it today.. Talked with a shop and found out first thing I need to do it get the engine the right height on the plate.. I will do that then start messing with the prop. I just feel that on a DC 207 with my 225 I should be able to get around 72-75mph...

If i'm not mistaken the gear ratio is high on the Mariner compared to the OMC/BRP engines. Try to get your hands on a 23 Trophy....

need to do a lot more on the setup...second time out with the boat...first time rooster tail going to the starboard side bad...jackplate not level I didn't check it before I went out. Now gotta get me a 21 pitch to increase holeshot as it is a little sluggish with the livewells full.
