    Re: Doug (Matt Plapp)

The dealer meeting got me thinking! That was an awesome display of the Rich history and tradition of Skeeter has played in the bass boat market.

A friend of mine runs a fiberglass repair shop and he is going to help me get it restored back to orginal quality and look. I would rather get it done right than mess it up. I will let you know on dollars. I've been getting road ready so he can take a look at it.

    I'll let you know.

Update 09/2007: 1967 Super Skeeter (Doug Vahrenberg)

Been working the trailer over to get it road ready and mobile. I replaced wheel bearings and seals, primed and painted hubs, axle, wheels and fenders. Added "new shoes" to the wheels. Started cleaning galvinzed trailer with metal cleaning compound. Next week she head to Shoreline Fiberglass Repair in Smithville, MO for help and advice from owner Todd Eggers on the direction we need to head with boat restoration. I also removed SuperSkeeter nameplates to mold and reproduce the orginal nameplates. Check back as I update with the next steps in this restoration.

Re: My New Skeeter - 1967 Super Skeeter (Doug Vahrenberg)

Thanks for watching this restore. I was hoping to get more done but have been postponed with my tournament fishing and have more postponements as I qualified for the FLW Stren Championship.

I finally got the mold built and casting done on the Nameplates for the Super Skeeter. If anyone is interested I am casting some extras that I will sell to pay for the costs of materials involved in making the mold and casting materials.

Now I just need to paint the red back on the casting. That's tonights work.

My New Skeeter - 1967 Super Skeeter (Update 10-01-07)

With some helpful encouragment From Michael Bristow of North Texas Fiberglass I got to work preparing for the floor and transom replacement. I got the cutting disc out and removed the floor in sections to expose the blocks of pine or balsa that were layed in a brick like format orginally. As Mike told be most were rotted from years of wetness. After the floor was removed the next thing was removing the transom. This was much harder as some of the wood was rotted but most was still very solid but was wet and had swelled. Here are a few images from the floor and transom removal. Next step to install a new subfloor and transom.

    Sub-Floor being removed (From Transom)

Sub Floor being Removed (From Bow) Notice how orginally it was blocks of woods.

I finally got the Painting Figured out on the Name Plates it required an Adhesion Promoter to get paint to adhere to the resin casting. Now on to the next step.

    Reproduction Super Skeeter Nameplates Finished

I have additional nameplates for sale. If you are restoring a Super Skeeter these are the only ones I know available. They are not exact orginals but very close. I had to reconstruct what I had to build the mold. Contact me if you are interested.
