Oops, just found one better than that, there's a 1976 Champ for sale in the same Craigslist Springfield area, another original rig that looks nice! What's that??? 35 years???![]()

Don't you think it is like everything else though where the old stuff was built to last and the new stuff was built to throw away?
It seams like everything that I have that is old just keeps going and going.
Everything new has no where near the life as the old stuff.
It is a throwaway society.
Okay, I'll answer honestly....
I bought a 1996 Champion 181 in July of 2002. That boat had torn seats and minor stress cracks. I fished it 3-6 days a week for the first 3 years I had it. It sat outside under a cover, washed twice a week and waxed about 2-3 times a month. I kept that boat immaculate. When I sold it in 2008, that sucker probably looked better then when I got it. When I had it, I put the newer style raised letters on it, new trolling motor, etc. It shined for sure. To my knowledge, it never obtained anymore stress cracks either. That boat knew 2 speeds. Idle, and WOT. It never missed a lick. I bought that boat for $10,000 in 2002. I promise I made more than that out of it in tournaments. My good buddy Casey has it and I still see it from time to time. He doesnt' have the time to give it all the TLC I gave it, but it still looks good and I hear it still runs like a top.....![]()
As long as you take care of it the boat will last as long as you want it to.
I have a 95' 186DC and it looks brand new and even looks better than some newer model boats i see at the ramp.
yep longs as you take care of it it will run and do good for ya for a long time.
im actally looking at possibly getting and older 80s model 184 and honestly it dont really worry me much at all. i know the boats pretty well and what to look for.
