Re: Jack really is a tard! (Lea)

Where is there a rule that states you must run WOT everywhere you go in a tournament? granted I normally do at blastoff, not because at 60 MPH I am going to be the first one there as much as it's just part of the experience. Most of the rest of the day you may see me putting around, that is unless I have a shallow channel to cut.

Thats Awesome....I know this maybe Blasphemy (sp?) but I might be putting the 203 on the market this summer or fall and going to BCB with a 200-225 opti....(Lea dont ban me )

yeah, that 200 or 225 opti would do you better in fuel, there's no doubt. But you also gotta consider the price you'll be paying with a new payment for the boat. Assuming you getting a new one.....

Brett..Champion makes superior boats smaller than the 203! Why would you go to a different brand when we have the finest boats rigged with 200-225s?

Believe me I have went over all the expenses....two times......I would really like to have an opti...but purchasing one would not save me on fuel...ie I am not saving gas compared to what the engine cost....all I am doing right know is Bi$#^n'...It would be hard to get out of a champ...realistically probably wont. Like I said before I was amazed at the gas mileage Hortons 250 xs got over my 225 EFI...but they both consume the oil...what you get I guess with a 2 stroke.

Re: Jack really is a tard! (BRETT)

theres good and bad in everything.....you just have to weigh whats best for you.....if i could do it all over again....im sure i would do something diffrent.....my old boat would have been paid for by now...would have sucked the gas down but i could have bought a lot of gas in a month vs what my boat payment is now but like everything else i jumped the gun.....if it was now i prob wouldnt have bought anything at all with the baby at home.....but we make due ok for now...in a few years it will be a little better when the truck is paid for so im not to worried about it now and i try not to bitch abou it to much but ill just have to change a few of the things i do....one thing im looking at doing is getting a boat to fish the rivers around here.....at least ill be fishing

Re: Jack really is a tard! (BRETT)

Keep the 203...just don't run WOT all the time.

I have heard oil comments before, but I have not noticed a problem with oil consumption on my last 2 Optis....

but I do not run WOT all day, every day...

Re: Jack really is a tard! (Lea)

The Opti on my boat, run at ~4000 most of the time, gets better gas mileage by far than my carbed 90 Merc did. I know if I take it WOT I will see a significant increase in fuel consumption, but at 4K it goes plenty fast enough for me.

I can't find the logic to repower thanks to gas prices. In new boat / motor prices, it's somewhere around 3K as I remember for >200 HP motors. However, in the slightly used boat market the cost is about a wash, and well worth the investment there.

I keep my tickets for gas every year for a refund on road tax I did not need to pay. Based on the total hours I put on the motor last year, read out of the ECU, and the amount of gas I burned from my tax records, I can say that the cost of gas on a gallon/hour basis is a non issue for me. I was nothing short of amazed by the mileage my Opti gave me last year, and 15-20 bux is nothing for a weekend of fun. However, like Lea, I am not fishing any TX other than the rallies (NC and VA?), and am blessed to have four good lakes within 30 minutes of the house. I'm afraid if I had to drive 1.5 hrs to my lake that fishing would be a thing of the past.

Re: Jack really is a tard! (203)

Try 2.5 to 3.5 hrs to good lakes and a 225 EFI and you would see why I will only fish 2 or 3 TX this year and may end up putting my dream boat up for sale. If gas hits $4 or more I just can't justify keeping a toy I can't afford to use. Makes me sick to think about it. Kids needs come first and they bring you the most joy anyhow. O' well life continues on.

Re: Jack really is a tard! (rammkow)

Wish I would of kept my old 186. It was paid for and I got all caught up in the new boat seen. Thought I needed a bigger boat. These gas prices have really changed my fishing and I am not tourney fishing as much. I also do not make those long runs anymore. I have even started driving my truck like grandpa used to drive his. I get heckled all the time when on the water because I very rarely anymore open the boat up. I cruise around and spend a lot more time fishing. It is really starting to hurt our local club also. My wife mentioned the other day that maybe I should sell the boat. After I set down and really looked at expenses I thought really long and hard and that might be a option. I might just sell and go as a non-boater and let someone else eat all the expenses of owning a boat. Time will tell. If it was not for my 21 year son enjoying fishing so much with me I think the decision would have already been made to sell.

Hopefully some new technolgies will come along and the gas companies can choke on their fuel. They should take all tax breaks away from them and also make them pay all fines for the Valdez incident. Its all politics. Bend over guys and gals its only going to get worse.

Re: Jack really is a tard! (BRETT)

What can a man do with $4 gas?

1. Run boat at 4k rpms or less as much as possible
(You will see 4 stroke rigs 150hp or less start to really dominate the market more & more)
2. Air up everything
3. Drive truck under or at the speed limit!
(all those vehicles now flying by you are helping drive up the cost for all of us...I see it every darn day)
4. Accelerate slowly from a stop
5. Let congress know we need to drill and build some nuc plants
6. Trade the no-hitch SUV for a 4 cylinder (if wife has one)
(SUVs will be on 2 for 1 sales by winter at this rate)
7. Cut teen "showoff around town" weekday driving a bunch
8. Hoard outboard and truck oil..enough for 3-4 changes at least
9. Change your own oil and recycle it
10. Consolidate some trips this week
GAS PRICES WILL FALL if demand (use) falls only 5% or so...
Never said it would be easy...I am (painfully) doing these... out of bullets now...das it
