    Re: Minnkota Talon (ragin_cajun92)

I will own one when they make a 30 footer. I fish deep 12 months out of the year.

There isn't too many places around here that are that deep. They would work great on the waterway.

I've had mine since last fall, I've tried abusing them as much as possible but haven't seen any issues yet. It's been stopping me wherever and whenever (in the right depth of course). Love the hands free operation, it saved me in multiple situations already.

where is the best place to buy one at..I see there 1449.99 msrp and i have read that if you get the ones thats not from a dealer you want get a warranty..The dealers all have to keep the same price from what i have read so how does that work?? If this is the case then it is not cheaper then the power pole sportmans 2..

I haven't checked prices lately, but moodeals and xtreme navigation always used to have the best prices. I have friends who have bought from both. You won't have any problems with warrranty either.

I've had mine on over a year now and had zero issues. None.
I use the talon every time I fish, multiple times. It's a great product, as is the pp.

I've noticed the talon sticks up much higher than the powerpole and that makes me kind of worried about if it will get in my partner's way or cause more of a problem getting it into my garage. For that reason I'm still on the fence about which one I want. I would have to put it on the starboard side because I have a ladder on the port side and that makes things worse for my righthanded partner. Anyone had similar concerns?

    Here's my two cents...

I don't make purchases with the non boater in mind. He will just have to deal with it. People say you can just deploy the power pole about 3/4 so its out of the way when you have a non boater. This way it's out of the way when he's casting. Say if he hooks into a biggun and needs to walk her around the back, I think the power pole will be in the way then. I'd rather have it up than deployed so its a wash. The Talon deploys straight down which I feel is better. The power pole reaches out like a spider leg which I think would give it a better chance of hanging up on something. The Talon is all electric with no hydrolics. I feel this is a positive. The biggest factor to me was $$$$. It was alot cheaper for the 8ft Talon than the PP, easier to install and I can take it off when I put the boat away for the winter.

I find myself using the Talon more and more each trip. I can launch my boat much easier when I'm by myself, when I'm changing baits on the water I can anchor myself and not worry about drifting. It also saved me one time from going into some rocks. I was fishing a windy bank and my trolling motor let go. I started to drift towards some rocks. I deployed my anchor and it kept me from hitting. I blew a fuse on my tm!

Which ever you choose you'll be thankful you did! I'll never have a boat without one.

For the warranty concerns (if you bought it below retail from an online site).... in all my years of calling Minn Kota or Humminbird, no one has ever questioned where I bought it from or how much I paid for my units.... If anything all they look at is your registration date (if you did register it) and base your warranty on that.

I understand your point about the non boater, but in my case I usually fish team tournaments and if that guy is back there diggin out a backlash, he ain't catchin no fish. So I gotta give em a little consideration with my choice of set ups.

I've probably fished close to 10 tournaments since I've had dual Talons. No one ever complained about the Talons. I think only once someone came close to nicking one of the Talons... just like it happens on the motor cowling.

Because everyone compares the talon price to the Powerpole blade for some reason. The talon and sportsmen 2 are very comparable in cost IMO.

Why do you believe an anchor that is on a pivot 4ft. away from the boat would be more stable than an anchor that deploys straight down from the transom area of the boat? Please explain your theory.

Have you called John Jones at JonesTrollingMotors? He is a board sponsor and I think he sells the Minn Kota Talon.

    Good luck

I don't see many Boaters allowing the co-angler to lower their anchors to make room for the coangler but here is something that is better. With MinnKota Tilt Bracket you could lower one Talon and allow the coangler to fish with out the Talon sticking up it would lose less than a square foot of deck space. The coangler or partner could do this easily with the push of the latch. But I would be sure to ask the boater before to make sure he is ok with you lower his equipment.

One thing most don't think about with Shallow Water Anchors and especially the Talon with it's straight down deployment is using them as a drift control device. With the shape and design of the MinnKota Talon you can deploy them straight in the water and create drag when the wind blows to reduce the boat blowing in the wind and reduce the speed. At the recent BASSmaster Open on Table Rock I was finesse cranking at very slow slow speeds and require precise placement. On Day 2 the wind started blowing me down the bank too fast. I noticed it was blowing the boat and causing it to move between 2.5 to 3 MPH. I needed to slow down because I was running trolling motor about 20% on my 101..which is really slow. I was keeping the boat in 15 foot of water and when the Talons where down and not touching bottom it reduced the boat speed to 0.9 to 1.5 MPH and allowed me to control the boat better and get a better control on the speed. THey worked like Drift Socks.

This is a couple of the features that I have found that MinnKota Talon has over the competition but the biggest is the ability to remove if not needed that day - only takes a minute and you can have it off the boat and totally reducing air drag when running down the lake which increases the fuel mileage per gallon of gas.

the 8ft talon is $995 at moodeals. Get whichever bracket you need and you're done, comes with 2 remotes.
