I was a haywards fan, but there are so many other places that they fall to the way side. I can't comment on their quality lately. I moved to St. Louis almost 7 years ago, but still get back several times a year. I haven't hit Haywards since I left.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if they remove the silver skin on the back side of the ribs or not? If not, I'll just give them a call. Thanks again!</td></tr></table>
I would hope they all do .

Oklahoma joes is the best overall IMO. 47th and mission in the gas station and 119th and Strang line in Olathe. Johnny's in Mission is pretty good also if you are just going for ribs. Nothing wrong with the others though, they are all good in their own way.
IMO, Hayward's has kind of gone down hill the past few years. Don't get me wrong we still like it and eat there regularly ( I live close by), but it just doesn't seem as good as it used to be. They are also not nearly as busy as they were in the past, so I guess others agree.
Oklahoma Joe's is probably our favorite. Just ask for the ribs dry.
Jack Stack - another favorite. We think the Martin City location is better than the 95th St. location. Also IMO they have the best beans and the cheesy corn is great. They have excellent steaks as well.
Arthur Bryants - the meat is excellent, but were not a fan of their sauces. Again, get them dry so you can taste the different sauces they have.

You're right about their steaks, they are really good. You wouldn't necessarily expect a BBQ place to have way better steaks than traditional steak restaurants. I've been nothing but disappointed in KC steak establishments the past few years, Plaza III, Hereford House and Capitol Grill top the list since they're so expensive. Haven't tried Ruth's Chris in a couple years.

I'll leave the descriptions to the food bloggers but I can't imagine leaving disappointed. The one in Olathe is good too. Jack Stack would be second, it's also very good. To me Gates is okay but nothing to rave about. Arthur Bryant's IMHO is one of those places you go just to say you've been and satisfy your own personal curosity. I've been multiple times and just never cared for it. The original is on Brooklyn near the 18 and Vine area. Be aware as this isn't in a great area.

I'm in KC every two weeks or so and have eaten at all of them. My favorite by far is Oklahoma Joes followed closely by Jack's Stack.
Well, if you're in Martin City and want steak isn't Jess and Jims still out there? It was the best in the country for steak!! I don't go to a BBQ joint for steak!!![]()
TOXIC
Jess and Jim's is still there, a friend of mine loves going there for their prime rib. They gained notoriety by being written up in playboy magazine in the 80s maybe. I haven't been there in a good 10 years probably.
