I was disgusted at what ish did. Really bad taste to call a guy out. Besides ish didn't have enough weight to make the cut without penalties. Also don't tell me he wouldn't have done the same thing.

I read Wirth was getting out and was surprised. Anyone remember when Bassmaster show showed him in the dock episode with the guy and and a little girl. I also though of that. I wonder if that wasn't a big deal but BASS cut the footage to make it look bad on him and that ticked him off also. Either way a great stick and sad to see a 12 time classic qualifier call it quits.

[quote=mrlawler1] then good for him on going back to being a equine dentist which I never thought about before. Didn't know there was such a thing, thought they were called a veterinarian. quote]

if you think owning a boat is expensive get a horse who needs a dentist

I wish Kevin the best of luck but as a guy who a written alot of checks on behalf of horses I couldn't resist

    Re: Kevin Wirth (medicpelle)

First off, I believe that it was all in fun between Ish and Wirth. From what I have heard it was all tongue and cheek and there are no hard feelings. Ish knows that it didn't matter as to his outcome.

Secondly, Kevin Wirth, what a class act as well. Aside from the sponsorship he acknwoledged that part of his reason for leaving the Elite Series is so that he can spend more time with his wife and kids. I imagine that all of those days away from home must really get old. I for one can't stand being away from the wife and kids more than a day.

What suprised me the most was to hear KW say that this is only the second time he has fished since June of 2011!

The boat he was using was a 2009 Triton with a Mercury engine that has nearly 500 hours on it and that he doesn't even own a boat. He had to borrow this one to come to the Classic.

All of that and he still manages a very respectable 14th place finish at a relatively tough fishery for the time of the year! Speaks volumes of the man and his ability!

    ...and with this...

The boat he was using was a 2009 Triton with a Mercury engine that has nearly 500 hours on it and that he doesn't even own a boat. He had to borrow this one to come to the Classic.

...one would THINK Triton would have put him in a boat for the CLASSIC.

Seems to be an unhealthy turnover level at BASS these days...
...fishing when I can, golfing when I have to...

He's a nice guy but in the past decade he hasn't done very well overall as far as wins go.If you're not winning or being competitive on a regular basis then its time to move on.

Wirth seems like a good guy and apparently has quite a bit going on, it doesn't sound like fishing is his priority at this point in his life. It also sounds like he feels that it's a pain to chase sponsors year in year out and doesn't want to have to do that anymore.

If Kevin Wirth is having trouble securing sponsorship, it just goes to show you have to sell shit first and catch fish second.

    Re: (TFJR87)

I was a marshall at Kentucky Lake in 2010. I had a motel room two doors down from Kevin Wirth and Zell Rowland, and spent a lot of time talking to them at the motel (these are two crazy guys). I drew out with Kevin the second day and I have never had a better day on the water. He would explain everything he was doing, and would tell me to come up there to point out something on his electronics. He talked a lot about the direction BASS was going and was not enjoying it as much as he had in the past. He talked a lot about the younger guys joining the Elite tour and how they did not respect other pros water and would see you fishing a spot in practice and mark it on thier gps and come back later with thier side imaging unit and find what you were fishing. I could tell the way he talked that day that he was not happy trying to make a living fishing anymore. I hate to see him go, he was a really good guy and I would love to spend another day on the water with him.

Yeah, i don't think Ish was all too serious. Just sounded like he was busting on him.

I do like Kevin though and i'm sad to see him go. But good for him stepping down to spend time with his wife and kids

Sounded like he'll be back though.
