    Re: Doctor or chiropractor? (dchance)

I have had back trouble for years and only go to chiropractors. I know it's a short term remedy but I have brothers that have had back surgery and still have back trouble. Seems to me when you cut something it only weakens it that much more. Anyway, that's how I look at it. Good luck and hope you get to feeling better.

    Re: Doctor or chiropractor? (tenngator)

Doctors and Chiropractors are just like outboard mechanics and cooks....some are great and honestly care, and other just plain SUCK. I've gone to chiropractors since 1961, for things they can help me with...and medical doctors for other things. A good chiropractor will tell you straight up if he can or can't help you. JMHO, but I prefer Palmer School of Chiropractic grads, I just like they way they adjust me.......

Well I checked with my doc 1st and was referred to a chiropractor to get straightened out. I've been to the chiro twice for 2 different issues and wouldn't hesitate to go again. Gotta have a doctor you are happy with. As we get older we need a doctor you can trust 'cause it won't be the last time you will need one. Your insurance may dictate who you see first.

A True Chiropractor will NOT make an adjustment without a complete work up...Then make adjustments slow until you feel like you did in your twenties Whe mine adjusted my neck I was able to breathe like never before....Can't wait to specd the money to get a complete work up a return to being adjusted

Chiropractor. They don't push drugs to mask the problem.

If you haven't seen a doctor in 10 years, you should go there first to make sure it is your back and not something else that has referred pain. then after the medical all clear, see a chiropractor. I used to think they were snake oil salesmen but after one got me back to work after being off with an injury for 6 months, i firmly believe they have a place in health care.

One of my close friends and fishing buddy is a Chiropractor. He has a good working relationship with many of the physicians in town and they frequently refer patients to him. However, some other physicians are so biased that they will not refer anyone to him and instead just mask their patients problems with drugs. That being said, my friend is also highly critical of many other Chiropractors, as they do not uphold what he defines as the highest professional standards and are more concerned with getting the most $ from patients.

Since you don't know have a regular physician, as others recommended, I would go to an Osteopath who is trained in both traditional medicine and manipulative techniques. Talk to friends and family or consult others whose opinion you trust. Make an appointment and if you are not happy with their recommendations, seek out someone else.

Chiro worked wonders for me!!! Doctors only belive in strenthening the muscles around the area to give it support, which is good.. BUT the area must be restraightened and kept straight till the muscles are strong enouth to keep it there.

Hurt mine playing football at age 13. After 20 plus years of Chiropractor and reinguring it atleast 2 times a year of thinking I had pulled a muscle again. I finally pushed the issue with rergular doc. and after MRI I had a ruptured dicsk and now have nerve damage in right leg and foot.

The is no replacement for lots of streaching

Thanks for the 1st grade name calling I now realize the 9 years of college education qualified me to be a quack To the BBC's that have had good things to say about my profession, thanks. The haters, well you know

Chiropractic is like anything else in life. There are the great, the good and the bad. A referral from someone you trust and has been treated is a good start. Chiropractors are doctors and can diagnosis. A diagnosis is the 1st thing that needs to be done. This is achieved by history, physical exam, orthopedic and neurological tests done in the clinic. If imaging is indicated then that is ordered. If your problem is one that is treatable by chiropractic methods then you will see great results. If you problem is severe then medical treatment including surgery will need to be done. The vast majority of cases are treatable. Along with treatment exercises and stretches are usually recommended. I have helped thousands of patients over my 20 years in practice. I also have seen folks that needed to see the surgeon because their condition required that level of intervention.

It always amuses me the amount of disinformation about chiropractic. It is always rewarding to see patients turn their lives around with sound advice and treatment. Masking your pain with drugs will only lead to worse trouble. Best wishes on finding a solution to your problem.

One other thing I will add is the safety of chiropractic treatment. Lets just say our track record is awesome compared to medical procedures. If you don't believe then find out about malpractice rates. Chiropractors pay much lower rates. In 20 years I have never had a claim brought against me.

    Re: Doctor or chiropractor? (mikeva)

My wife was in a bad wreck in her Accord. She barely missed hitting a senior citizen's bus head-on but did hit a rock wall twice and a telephone pole. The car was not recognizable.....the air bag saved her. She was taken by ambulance to the closest ER and checked out, then I immediately took her to my Chiro. He X-rayed her and thoroughly checked her spine, gave her an adjustment. The next day she was barely sore and went to work......
I had a terrible sinus headache one day so bad it hurt to move my eyes. I let work early and drove to my doc. I'd also had terrible heartburn all week that Tums wouldn't touch. When he was examining me, he mentioned "You have heartburn pretty bad, dontcha?" I left a few minutes later with no headache and no heartburn I totally believe in Chiros for things they can help with.
