Welcome to the world of outboard parts, where the owner is eviscerated on price, just because they can. You might find those parts in an outboard junkyard, but there aren't that many HPDI's in junkyards yet.

IsnÂt that just great how they make a defective part for pennies and charge arm and a leg for the new and improved part? Before you start ordering make sure thatÂs the problem. You should be able to see if the washer you have is worn out. Normally the prop will start rubbing on the gear case also. Have you tried increasing idle rpm?
I spent some time this weekend messing around with it and it takes 1000 rpms in gear to make the noise go away completely. Thrust washer that is on there is in like new condition. The guys at my Skeeter dealer just kind of nodded and said prop noise...yup nothing you can do about it. I am not going to worry about it, ran 60 miles this weekend and most of it was at WOT (fishing a tourney) she runs good so I can live with a little prop noise when in gear at idle.
Had the same problem on my 2006, HPDI when I switched to the 2 pc. thrust washer, noise was gone ($100 fix). Don't know the exact cause of the noise.
If your motor makes the noise is this harmful. Personally if it doesnt hurt anything I could live with it ?
Im no outboard tech but I im a tech for autos and fork lifts and this sounds like to me play in the prop. Not front to back play, my idea to see if this is true. Take some clear silicone and put on the splines between prop and hub and see if noise not as loud after. I know this sounds crazy, just puts me in the mind of a rear end noise on a hot rod with large cam. Just a guess. Probably sounds crazy.
