    Re: E-tec 115 question (TMF)

Great news on the "current" output. Thanks!

When the 115 and 130 were first listed on the Evinrude site, the 115 was listed @ 25 amps, and the 130 @ 50. Never seemed TOO logical, given the common block, but, well, ya never know.

If the 130 remains "delayed" the 115 constitutes a decent alternative, all the more now that the 115 is confirmed @ 50 amps.

I believe all the V4s and V6s come standard with minimum RPM set at 500; did your dealer raise the RPM, or is it just "parallax error" on the gauge? :)

    Again, thanks for the confirmation!

I don't think the dealer changed the rpm's. I will double check where it's idling next time I get out.

    Re: E-tec 115 question (RenMan)

The first test drive with dealer I thought this is awesome, with three of us in the boat, he put the hammer down and it just "jumped" out the water. It topped out at 45 on the speedo at 5500rpm. Idles real quiet, but is a little loud WOT, not bad though.

Second test drive, after adding trolling motor and two batteries with two of us in the boat, hole shot was not as good and rpm's were down(5200-5300 at WOT.)Speedo still read 44mph, but I had gps with and that read 38-39mph. I think the gps would be the more accurate of the two. I was happy with the 45 but a little disapointed if it is actully only getting 39.

Fisrt two runs were with 14x17 alum. I borrowed a 13.75x15 today. I was alone and the holeshot was great but top end was only 40 on speedo. Didn't have gps with. Rpm's at WOT were 5800.

I have a question on rpm's. The evinrude catalog says full throttle 4500-5500. The manual says 5500-6000, I am assuming the manual is correct, but on the test drive with dealer he said it was on the high end of rpm range at 5500.

I have maybe an hour and a half on it now and the oil has dropped about an inch in the tank. The needle on the gas guage is moving alot faster than I would like But that has been alot of WOT.

Maybe I am expecting too much of this motor, I though the top end would have been better and the fuel usage less. My last motor was a 60 four stroke and before that was a 40 four stroke, so I don't really have anything to compare it to performance wise.

Until I save up enough pennies to afford a ss prop I will live with what I have now.

    Re: E-tec 115 question (TMF)

Your best fuel economy will be at the 3/4 throttle setting. BUT IT"S SOO HARD TO KEEP OFF THAT THROTTLE ON A NEW ENGINE!!!!!!!! Thats why you bought an E-tec!!! Once the newness wears off, you'll throttle back a little more. Maybe!! You have to remember, 115 vs 60/40 hp. You have to have fuel to make horse power, a 115 4 stroke would yield more fuel usage than the 60/40 4 srtoke. You may want the dealer to check the engine height , if it's too low, you will lose speed. Sometimes they are set all the way down on the transom. If it could come up a bit, your top end would increase. You will lose drag from the gearcase and allow the prop to spin more freely. A little goes a long way here.

    Re: E-tec 115 question (TMF)

    TMF,
Evinrude's website says 5500-6000 rpms for the 115 like your manual does. I downloaded Evinrude's 2006 catalog and it says 4500-5500 for the 115... Which one is it, gurus? Rusty, Seahorse, Rudetech?? Like Rudetech says, might give more performance to raise the motor some. What hole are you mounted in now?
    Good luck,
    Dan

    Re: E-tec 115 question (cfieldbasser)

5500 rpm is the best range. The power rated rpm is up to 6000. Run the engine at W.O.T 5500 Rpm.

    Re: E-tec 115 question (rudetech1)

Another test ride, this time I tried a 13.75x17 ss Viper prop. WOW, what a difference. Holeshot was great and for top end I was hitting 44.9 gps at 5700rpm. I can't believe how much of a difference the ss prop makes. Now I don't want to give it back.

Anyone else with a 115 delivered? This seems to be the only documented one so far with pics.

When I first picked the boat up there was about three fourths of a tank of gas in it. I have been out about 6-8 times, mostly playing around and testing a few different props. I went threw that tank of gas(24 gallon tank) or so I thought. Went to fill it up today and with the needle on empty I could only get 12 gallons in it. So, it is alot better on gas then I first thought it was.

Why would the guage read empty when there was still half of a tank in there?

You can't trust those fuel gauges that come in the boat... That's the way my fuel gauge does. Better to show empty when half-full than to show half-full when empty. The I-Command gauges would show accurate fuel burn.
