Re: Atchafalaya Basin Open BASS Tournament (Bowman1)

I'll be at the Michel Landing next to the Bayou Bouef Locks at 6:30 in the morning to see how many boats lock thru. Most of the boats that lock I'm sure are making the 115 mile one-way trip to Lake Cataouchie. I heard there was 137 boats in the tournament and the boater and co-angler are allowed 5-bass each, 14" minimum length. A lot of $2.60 plus fuel will be burnt in the next few days.

I really don't understand why they don't put a limit on the range of travel. If they want the majority to fish the basin to show their versatility, then put a limit on travel. If the majority will run to Cat. then just launch there.

I always said fish the basin from mid May to mid Sept after that stay on the lake side, that's the way I did it for years.

Re: Atchafalaya Basin Open BASS Tournament (Bowman1)

I called a buddy from Ponchatoula that will be fishing it and he has found a frog bite to the west of the launch. He says that it might be won in Cat. but there some fish outside of there.
115 miles, stopping for fuel, locking through, dealing with a lot of boats trying to get there before you.............wow!! I think I would try to find some fish somewhere else. You would likely only have about 3 hours of fishing. 5 fish in 3 hours is not that difficult, but it leaves you no time to cull fish.
Everybody put some good thoughts out there for our local boy, Darrick Allen and the others from Louisiana.

Gonna be interesting to see how many do make that run to the Cat...I know if I was fishing it, I'd try and find something else that I could have more to myself. But I'll be pulling for the locals! I know Clunn and a few of the other big name pros fished the other two Central Opens. I'll be checking out the weigh-in online later today!

I've never been to the Cat...but that seems like it's quite a looooong run from belle river public....though I don't doubt plenty of them made the run. I still wish they would have restricted the boundaries though..
