Re: New Truck, No trailer lights (mikedaleo)

Is t his fixed yet? It would be a violation of the Kentucky Revised Statutes to trailer a boat on public roadways without trailer lights and I refuse to participate in a violation of those statutes. Maybe we need to use the old reliable F150 to pull the Triton down there.

When I installed the WhiteKnight backup lights to my system I had to plug a relay into the fuse panel. It's probably something simple like that.

How about this, with a 7 pin round connector, I still had to have the trailer hitched to the truck for this thing to be grounded. They work great now though

Interesting...When you have a free minute, you should wet your fingers and grab the hitch ball and the tongue and see if it still works!

Must be a chevy thing, because those pics I took of my trailer last night, the trailer was not hooked up to the truck....just backed in close enough to be able to put my 7 pin round plug into my Dodge and they work fine.

Re: New Truck, No trailer lights (mikedaleo)

Mike have you checked the ground in the plug on your truck to make sure it's getting a good connection with the trailer plug? It sounds like it isn't getting a good ground until you hook it to the hitch ball. I don't know if Chevy did the same thing as ford but ford went to a type of paint called e-coat on their frames where they use to use wax. E-coat is some bad stuff and if the spot where the ground is connected isn't completely ground clean then dielectric grease put on it you won't get a good ground. If that isn't it then you may want to take off the ground where it connects to the frame from the plug and make sure it's hitting clean metal. Add a star washer between the lug on the wire and the metal if there isn't one on there already. We run into that at work a lot and if the ground is being made through the hitch ball then at some point it'll lose it's ground and the trailer lights will go crazy. 80% of electrical problems with DC are in the grounding somewhere.

I think there is a ground wire sitting loose somewhere between the plug and the other end of the harness. For now, I guess it doesn't really matter, but I am taking it to the dealer to look at tomorrow just incase.

Mike the ground should be attached to the trailer somewhere around the tongue. Also have seen the wire break inside the insulation and not get a ground.

I have some loose wires in my trailer (drop down tounge ) and will blow a fuse in the truck (04 GMC Sierra z71) from time to time. it'll be in the fusebox under the hood.
