I'd like to see Donovan come here, but I don't see him leaving Florida.

Agree...I don't see Billy leaving Florida....I wouldn't be mad more than a split second if Pitino came back

His name isn't being mentioned on the news here Greg. But I wouldn't mind it. The Louisville fans wouldn't like it too much.

They just said if Tubby would stick around until April 3rd, he would make 1.5 million for a longevity bonus.

He was paid his "loyalty bonus" of 1.5 million dollars. And as I understand maybe some under the table money from a group of boosters for a going a way present.

The university agreed to pay him the bonus. I think Billy D would be great, but I don't think he would want to coach down the street from his daddy.

They were talking on sportscenter about the ripple effect of this and said there will be a bunch of coaches getting raises to keep them from going to Ky. I just thought that was hilarious that we have so much power that millions are going to be spent to keep them away.

I would venture a guess that Memphis is scrambling to put together some $$$$ as well as their boosters. Donovan currently has not signed his contract extension with Fla.

I imagine that if he was going, they wanted him gone quick to get on with recruiting. I bet they already have a short list.

Tubby's a nice guy, and if I was picking a neighbor, he'd be way better than Pitino, but you've got to be a salesman to sign players, and Tubby is an introvert.

Well said Pitino brought in players that were deserving of wearing our colors.....and they played an uptempo style of basketball that was awe inspiring to watch Kids like Mashburn, McCarty, Delk, Padgett, Travis Ford...and on and on...players that will forever be remembered by the Cat faithful.

Tubby has given us Woo, Shigari Alleine, Morris, and even the one non-basketball playing, worthless point guarding, waste of a good uniform son Saul .....Tubby is a good, decent human being....but he is the worst recruiter in Div I

    Re: TUBBY IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (CatFan)

I have never liked Tubby's style, I much prefer the up-tempo style of play. Tubby is a class act and (I think) a man of character....having said that I'm not sad he's going. A few names were mentioned on tv tonight......One of Ricky P's proteges may end up with it. I wouldn't cry if John Pelphrey got it, or Travis Ford.....some younger, energetic man would be great, someone savvy at getting top recruits and motivating them

    Re: TUBBY IS GONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (KyLegndHamr)

Part of Pitino's success was his ability to launch players into the NBA....kids knew they would be in the national spotlight at UK....all they had to do was buy-in to Pitino's style of play (and be willing to run your ass off ) and your chances of playing at the next level were pretty good.

I'd be cool with another Pitino protege taking the helm....especially if his last name is Donovan

Ricky P brought excitement to the game .we liked it and wanted more. Tubby Ball just isn't as entertaining.I really think he is a class fellow .but he has made me not look foward to gamenight , I don't think you will see Pitino back , but I sure hope it will be a up tempo coach with the ability to recruit

I agree 100% with getting a more engergetic, up tempo coach. Make watching the games so much more exiting and usually has better results lol. I'd love to see Rick back, but anything is better than Tubbo to me.

You'll leave Rick Pitino alone, he is doing just fine at Louisville.

I agree Tubby is a fine person. But his style of ball isn't my choice. Rick is an A@@ but I like his style of coaching. Perhaps if he did come back I might watch the games with more. So long Mr. Smith! Tubby and and golden gophers....what a combo. If they get on the schedule and kick our butts.....OH CRAP!

    Re: (JeffC)

As i said in another post guys, Calaprie or Bell Self would be good guys. Self is a proven recruiter and coach at Il and also Kansas. Cal. has done the same thing at Memphis and Mass, either one would be a good one. If Billy wins the NCAA then i think he will stay at Flor. and build his own legend.

    Re: (RangerRodney)

You guys will be want Tubby back in a couple of years. Big, big mistake. Not sure how you guys are so upset over a coach that won the 263 games, 4th most of any program during that same period of time.

"Smith led Kentucky to one National Championship in 1998, a perfect 16-0 regular season conference record in 2003, five SEC regular season championships (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2005) and five SEC Tournament titles (1998, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004), with six Sweet Sixteen finishes and three Elite Eight finishes (1999, 2003, 2005) in his nine seasons. He totaled 100 wins quicker than any other Wildcat coach except Hall of Famer Adolph Rupp, reaching the plateau in 130 games."

Next, the Dukies will want Krzyzewski's head also...

Want Tubby back?!? Aint gonna happen....deduct the cupcakes at the beginning of each season during that 10 year stretch....then factor in that he won the NCAA Championship with Pitino's recruits...not his...then consider all of the sub 60 point, grinding, sloppy, and generally irritating as hell games we have endured for the last 6-7 years (once all of Pitino's recruits were gone)....then add in all of the Tubby recruits that probably wouldn't start in a Div II school...and there's a long, long list of those.

And finally, when teams roll in to Rupp and know they can win...then it's time for a change...because that WAS NEVER the case since Rupp Arena opened...well, that too seems to have changed over the last couple of years.
