I think you should be $800-$1,000 per window plus doors installed for a quality window, which would be a fair price.

Id do mine for $1,000 a window. Got a quote from Anderson 68K, after saying no and some “discounts” applied went to 45K. 21 windows total, but master has the sundial window above an 8’x10’ as well as two large windows on main. Three entry doors. I'm still looking into options.

Got sticker-shocked for sure, $38k! Figured I’d get another quote, but seriously, is that the reality these days?
Yeah, they'd just stay old or I'd do it myself

We replaced our windows last spring for $34k installed. 2,000 sq ft rancher, I think it was 14 or 15 windows. We went with all casement or awning windows. Went with Andersen, yes national brand and probably a bigger price, but there service has been second to none. They replaced 3 windows they nicked the sash on during install no questions asked. They're service has been great.

I bought our 4 entry doors at Lowe's and installed them myself. Entry doors are all fiberglass. The sales person with Andersen told us to go to Lowes or home depot for doors. She said they weren't competitive on doors. I did appreciate that honestly from her.

I despise vinyl windows. I have never had luck with them and didn't want white.

We bought the house in 23 from the original family that built it in 67. We replaced the first set of replacement vynil windows on our rancher that was from 2015 and over half had condensation in the panes. The "lifetime" warranty on the replacement vinyl set didn't get you much.

You definitely get what you pay for.

Why replace windows? What does failure look like with a window?

Condensation between the window panes is a big one. Double pane windows serve as a big insulator to a home.

    In my case:
-new windows have more curb appeal
-they provide more energy efficiency to home during heating and cooling
-they are easier to maintain and keep clean/ not hard to open and close like originals were
-they add value to the home when selling in the future

Compromised seals lead to huge losses with ac and heat.

yep...they quoted me a stupid high price too (this company advertises nationally). THey simply sub it to local mex...I mean workers.

but my house is tiny, only has 8 windows and 2 doors. I don't remember the exact quote but it was under 20k. I cant justify that and I refuse to pay that. If it saves me $10 a month it would take forever to pay for itself.

so we are shopping around. There's a very good window/door company just right down the road (independent) that I totally forgot about and they're supposed to be out the second week of May to quote it.

We replaced two 36" wide windows last year for $600 each. That included labor.

That definitely sounds like Renewal by Anderson pricing.

so the fiberglass or wood framed windows are very expensive to buy/install. Vinyl is much cheaper. 3 years ago we had some windows installed. the cost of the normal bedroom size windows from Anderson renewal were like $2500 each. The large picture windows in our great room were much more.

I see the "easy" all the time, guess what the Mrs. is getting easy replaced because "easy" looks like sheet.

Yup, we saw alot of DIY work on homes that we were looking to buy. You could always tell the DIY from the pros you get what you pay for. We left alot of homes without putting in an offer becuase of the DIY work.

In addition to failure of the seal on the double panes, cheaper vinyl windows are more prone to the frames sagging and weather stripping failing. It does no good to have insulated glass if the air leaks around the window frame

I'd just love to cut down on the noise from outside, but I'm not paying $2K per window. House has double pane, tilt in but outside noise comes right in. I'd like to fill in between the panes with expanding foam, but the wife says no.

We had five across the back replaced about 4 years ago. They were right at a grand each installed. The install crew was a joke, made the whole process miserable.

Yeah you can really tell when they have unseen leaks between the new windows and existing weather resistant barrier that end up rotting out the exterior sheathing. They saved money on the window install then spend three times that replacing sheathing, mold remediation, and siding.
