Daiwa tatula cork handle rods are a great choice at the 149.00 range. Great sensitivity and actions on all their rods. Heard good things about the XTs too.

Powell Endurance for $130 is pretty hard to beat. They blow the doors off my Mojo Bass and Denali Koverts. Every rod in the line is balanced. I haven't come across a top heavy one yet. The 733 and 724 are fantastic multi purpose sticks.

I'm really curious about the Frenzy rod at Dick's too.

I like Dobyn's myself, they had the Sobi rods marked down on the website with free shipping, but I think they're sold out of the 724C now.

I bought all 3 models when they were 30% off. Kadens for $120 was too tough to pass up

The bass pro rods can be great. The carbonites will sometimes go on sale for $99. The cranking sticks have always been a well liked rod. I've never used their graphite/bionic/pro qualifier series but those are well under $100.

I picked up a a falcon low rider head turner a year or two back and that rod impresses me for the money. Falcon makes other sub $100 rods. Had an HD years ago that was pretty decent.

Castaway use to make great rods under $100 but I'm not familiar with any of the new ones.

For a while now I've wanted to pick up a hank parker signature series rod but I can never find one at walmart. I know I can order one but would just like to handle one. I hear for $45 they are impressive.

Plenty of good rods out there for sub $100.

FWIW, Castaway is junk compared to the OG Made in The USA rods in the 1990s...same-same for AllStar and American Rodsmiths offshoot (now defunct).

Man those old castaways were great rods. Had several and still have one trout rod. I have one older all star and my dad had an American rod smith that for the time was top notch. The local academy sold those three brands plus falcon. At the time online tackle was not the deal and those were high end rods. Any boat you came across around here had one of those brands in it.

    Yessir!

There was also a direct tie to Kistler in this group as well. I also have some old school Castaway product magazine and small hand held product brochure for AllStar from the 1990s.

Colt 734 is rumored to be QUITE popular amongst the tourney crowd for a spook rod.

I have been on a wild goose chase the last 2 weeks trying to find a replacement for my 7MH Academy ethos rods and somehow purchased 5 new rods (yes i have a problem). Along the way i did realize that the 2010ish Ethos rods for $59.99 were an absolute steal back then (remember they had Fuji alconite guides and Fuji ACS reel seats).

I had to bump up my budget, but i settled on a Dobyn’s Sierra 703 and it feels pretty much identical to my old Ethos 7MH. It has more of a moderate fast action which is what i was looking for. So…not necessarily a budget rod, but at least i know a good replacement exists!

I'm not sure what to make of this post. Any rod that be be had for $4 is a steal, or simply a mistake on the seller's part (you can't even buy a name brand reel seat for that). Just not sure how to make recommendations if a person can't tell the difference between $300 rods and a $60 (original msrp), other than get all the $60 and less rods you can.

I rolled the dice, based on some reviews I had read, and purchased a Level Rods NGX series. I’m fortunate enough to receive a first responder discount on those rods, so it dropped the price significantly. They retail for $169… however, that rod has blown me away. So happy I purchased it. It’s light, and very sensitive. They just came out with a new series called the Rake series. Those are going to be $99. I don’t have one, but will probably give it a try eventually based on how impressed I am with the NGX line.

Ollies had some good rod/reel combo's cheap a week or 2 ago. One piece rods. Lew's spinning combo, $39.00, Lew's baitcaster combo $49.00. I bought one of the spinning, works well.

I had read where that one just turned out special, but I have never handled one that I recall.

I believe the original 734 champ was designed for a spook rod if I remember correctly.

Yes, seems popular under the radar.

I was really surprised at the Ark Cobb rods that I got late last summer. I got them for about 50 bucks a piece on a BOGO Deal. I got a backup wacky rig rod, and a backup frog rod and was quite impressed with how light and crisp they felt for the money.
