have you looked in gearcase bearing carrier for debri from blow up i found one for a guy one time that had part of a piston lodged in carrier restricting exhaust flow , fyi 1;87 is lower ratio will spin more rpm than 1;75/1;62 did youi replace tuner gasket under adapter plate , posibly blowing water into exhaust at higher rpm , has this engine ever ran higher rpm , put a known good 25 tempest on it and set boat up right for testing, im trying to help ya man

this motor has run 5800 rpm with my 26 tempest+ and torquemaster lower. the lower im running that came off the 1999 225 was a running motor its a temp until i can get a gen2 tm. the reason for the rebuild was no compression in #6 cylinder there was scaring in the cylinder but it did not blow up. #6 resleeved then used a pro marine rebuild kit all new pistons rings bearings and gaskets

shouldnt be 500 rpm no, 2-300 yes then add heat and humidity another 2-300, put the TM back on it verify ALL switches and sensors are working and reading correctly then lets see what it does
