If lightning is approaching, I make like Sir Robin and bravely run away! Haven't seen a fish yet worth the risk.

i guess my point is you can greatly increase the odds of getting struck by lightening, if that’s your thing!

I have been struck by lightning while trying to outrun a storm in the Mississippi River. Its no fun and by the grace of God I didn't die or have any long term side effects.
As some of the "if it's meant to be.." crowd suddenly have a change of heart and scurry for the ramp, I'm left with the best spots on the water...
I'm kidding, I run too.
I was on a lake with 100% boat house coverage, the popcorn storm came in quick, so I tied to a dock and hoped in a boathouse. storm left, and a State Police water patrol found me, and the owner wanted to press trespassing on me. a couple weeks later I was back in a cove against a bluff, and another storm came in...... heard a crack, and I took off through the no wake like a bat out of hell, under a bridge and across the lake, to another No wake, which I blew through to the ramp. jumped in the truck. not long after the State Police motored into the ramp looking for me. He was under the bridge. Lots of explaining about the Trespassing issue and that it was a safety issue. He was not amused, I did not receive a ticket.
Trespassing? What a DB. I’d have brought you in for a beer until the storm passed.
I have definitely been pretty stupid by ignoring lightning...I mean it’s Florida! We have SO much lightning during some storms you almost get used to it! But, last year I was very dumb one day and lucky neither of us got killed.
Im glad to say I’ve learned after that episode!

Same lake, there is two on water resteraunts with lake views, both are pretty close to each other. As diners were eating their diner a jet ski was out on the lake, doing dipsy doodles as they do, got hit and his gold chain got him good. DOA!

on an ACOE lake like Hartwell you can legally tie up under any covered boat dock in the event of a storm.

Just like everyone else, when I was young didn't think it could happen to me. Would fish through the storm. As I grew older I began to have some close calls and eye opening situations. First, lightning struck our house. It sounded like a 22 pistol was shot inside the house. It was scary looking for a fire afterwards too, but didn't find one. Luckily it didn't get anything but electrical related stuff. It was several years later but we were at a Braves game at the old Turner Field, sitting in the stands down the third base line. It a summer afternoon, and a thunderstorm was brewing behind us. Looking over the stands behind us you could see just the edge of the clouds. It was still clear skies over the field and out beyond the other side of the stadium. You've heard the term, 'out of the blue'? Well, I saw it. Lightning struck on the other side of the stadium about a couple miles away...where the skies were clear. Astonishing to say the least. Next, one summer afternoon I was riding in the Tuskegee Natl Forest. There was a little cloud...sprinkling rain. That was it. Not even enough to roll the windows up. I came upon the gun range and was just about to get out of the struck and check it out. Lightning struck a pine tree about 30 yards from me. My ears were ringing. Not long ago driving home from work, it was like something out of a movie. I saw lightning hit a tree about 50 yards in front of me...county road....and there was actually a small fireball that went up from it. Another time, we were shooting and a storm came up, we went in the house, it passed. Waited the pre requisite 1/2 hour after the last sound of thunder. We went back out, were setting up the target that blew over and about that time, BAM. It was close, don't know where, but that was it, we were done for the day. Forget it.
I've felt lightning indirectly. It hurts. Therefore I have much respect for it, and am off the water at the first signs.
