Been seeing the F Yamaha on a few older Rangers. 150 thru 200 motors.

I had a yam F225 sport on my previous stratos 200 pro xl after my hpdi popped a few times. The F started everytime with first turn of the key. It ran perfect when it was 20° and 105°. It was quiet, way more fuel efficient…. It never once left me wondering - infact I didnt even have seatow saved in my phone back then.

It was about 4-5mph slower, but I didnt give two poo’z, it was perfect!

Mercury efi or Yamaha OX66. Anything pre the stricter emissions requirements seem to be reliable. Like anything depends on maintenance and how well it was taken care of.

Yes I am on my 2nd Optimax, the first one had 1500 hours on it when I got rid of it and still ran great.

I think any new motor is a good motor. Looks like Evinrude's reputation made them a non-profit competitor and they folded tent. I bought a new Suzuki because I got the best deal on it. If the prices were the same I'd probably go Yamaha, but I hope my motor outlasts me, I'm almost 82. I got into mine for about $15k, with my broke motor in trade.

Put a comma between the second and third digit in the HP rating and add a couple zeroes. That is real pricey!

For reliability, these three but they are a lot more popular on aluminum rigs than bass boats. Reasons are limited dealer network, propping difficulties, and lower speeds.

The Yamaha and Suzuki are 4 cylinder engines. The Honda 200 is a 6.

I know for a fact that the Honda's on the tow boat at the marina have well over 10000 hours on them.

If speed not an issue, Suzuki. There is a reason the offshore guys use them

This... I had the grey Yamaha 150 on my ranger replacing the merc 150 Opti. The Yamaha was an absolute beast! It didn't have the pop that 2stroke had but it was bullet proof. New boat new motor, currently have the merc 250 pro xs v8. Over 200 hrs and she runs like a top.

Mine's the 2.5L version, but still comes with that beautiful 2-stroke aroma. When I warm it up in the morning, the 4-stroke guys always come by for a sniff.

Just found out my 16 pro xs has a hairline crack in the block. 360 hrs on it. Very disappointed. I see a new sho coming real soon.

Good Idea, the SHO is the best 4 stroke on the market.

Ran a 200 SHO for 11 years. Yearly oil and filter changes plus lower unit. Changed impeller & plugs every 21/2-3 years. Engine was never in the shop. Best engine I have ever owned.
