Well, I recommended a set of Ampere time (Li Time) batteries to a “cheap” friend just based on reviews I’ve seen. He just completed 3 years with no issues (he’s about a 4 days a week fisherman). I’d say he got his money’s worth already (he got the 50ah ones). I have noticed that there are starting to be some negative reviews on Weize on YouTube and Will Prowess has even rescinded his recommendation on them (the internals have changed since he first broke one open).

I have had the Weize for about 6 months or so. No issues so far. I haven't been able to run them down even in heavy wind and cutting through acres of hydrilla topped out for hours. If I can get 3 or 4 years out of them, I will be happy. Only cost me $289 each and the performance far exceeds any other batteries I have had.

So that argument doesn't quite work anymore. I went with those Ecoworthy batteries for my troller on the River-Pro three years ago now and have had great success. They have far exceeded my expectations for their price and are literally a 1/3 of the weight of the X2 AGM's I had before.

To add, the AGM is only 80% effective capacity, at best.

Looking at the reviews of cheap batteries on amazon and all the ones that melted or caught on fire I would not want that in my garage. Aluminum jon boat by a pond sure, in my house not at all.

I put battle born batteries in my boat, I picked something with a nice track record.

Of the hundred of thousands lithium batteries sold, how many boat fires have there been?

Lifepo4 batteries are very safe probably more so than lead acid. The early ones where lithium ion which are much more instable.

Well, a small detail about lithiums that doesn’t get discussed much is that, even though almost 100% of the capacity is useable, they DON’T recommend taking it down below 20% if you want LONGEVITY. They also DON’T recommend lithiums to be stored long term above 80% (again for longevity). That leaves a recommended usable range about the same (or less) than AGM’s. I almost didn’t get lithiums based on this (but a good case for getting more ah than you think you need).

LiFePO4/LFP still have 2,000-3,000 cycles in them even if you bring them down to 100% DOD. Which is still many times longer than if you took an AGM down to 80% (250-500 cycles -at best-).

If you size your battery to accommodate for a lower DOD, you can make the cycle life go through the roof. You will still save the weight over lead acid or AGM. A budget 100Ah LFP is 2x the effective capacity of a lead-acid equivalent, cost maybe 2x and will have a >4x longer life.

All batteries degrade constantly, even at perfect temperatures. Calendar aging, too hot, too cold, too low of stored SOC, too high of stored SOC. No matter how you cut it, it's many times better than Lead-Acid or AGM from all angles.

When I was doing my research, I dug into the fine print of the lithium batteries I was considering. The advertised cycles were based on the usage parameters I previously stated, but I was okay with, say, 2,000 cycles instead of 3,000 cycles (arbitrarily stating these numbers). To me, having the full 100% capacity AVAILABLE was the advantage I wanted, regardless of price. But, those considering lithium, based on cost and longevity, should be aware that longevity may not be attained unless they operate in the parameters hidden in the fine print.

If the cycles are anything close to right the average person will never have to worry about that.If you cycled them 100times a yr that is 20 yrs just to get to 2000 cycles.I imagine a failure of the bms would be the end of most batteries.
