    1) Stalls only when shifting to reverse - any ideas guys ?

    2) Aside from rags/diapers/etc etc ..........Any creative fixes on the oil drip off the throttle plate springs of the intake that work well ?

Thanks in advance Guys - appreciate your time

Not one of those two but maybe a bad shift interrupter switch on the bottom of the linkage. Diapers is a new one on me usually blue paper towels.

they fixed the oil drip on the BRP engines of 2002 and newer. Oil absorbent pads work or borrow some diapers from CM if he has any clean ones.

Most likely shift shaft corrosion at the o-rings on the gearcase shift cover, buidup on the shift shaft seal area, adjusted too far into reverse, or stiff bushings on the engine linkage.

    Re: (SEAHORSE)

Thanks guys - much appreciated - so here's were things get interesting - we installed a new powerhead few years ago (got the reman. block from authorized BRP center) - It was NOT dressed - the stampings on the block read 2003 - 250hp - now this could/might get a little more interesting for you folks.

As a result - the interupter contacts the bottom of the intake heavily and binds - by removing the outside plastic hat bushing from the interupter shaft created enough play in the linkage to operate - however - the shift quality is not crisp............an issue we wanted to tackle for the new season.

So in trying to improve shift quality - we have this stall as soon as we go into reverse...........

So the question becomes - is the 2003 shift interupter slightly shorter in height than the 2001 ?? This would explain the issue..............or the intake boltup on the 2003 block somehow changes the clearances slightly - if not - there is some slight linkage differences causing the binding -

Other wise - We will make further adjustments first - take a look at the linkage/ bushing - then go after the shift interupter - the corrosion is interesting - we went through the lower last season's end - but an idea I will not forget in the future.

Let me know what you guys think - regarding the new info..........
    Regards,
    cci-chris

Seahorse, If they fixed the oil drip on the 2002 they did a lousy job. Mine (2002 225HO) will leak a substantial amount of oil over the course of the season. Most of it comes off of throttle body linkages. Like most I have found the linning the lower tray with fresh terry cloth towels every spring keeps it under control

    Re: (svfetter)

    What is your idle rpm?
If its too low it can stall going into reverse as reverse puts a bit more strain on it than fwd.

Belly pans are different between a 2001 and a 2003. Pop off the STBD side pan and see if it shifts OK.

The stalling problem when shifting is usually caused by worn plugs or the need to de-carb. since you have played with the shift linkage then you may be looking at a situation where it does not activate the shift interrupt when shifting into forward.
