92 Johnson fast strike 150

I'm running a 92 faststrike 150. Motor has always run great but here lately the last 2 trips it acts up just sometimes when ever I first start it. It will act like it's running out of gas or something. I'll start givn it throttle and it will die. I restart it 2 or 3 more times and it'll clear out and run great. Anyone ever experience somthng like this? Also, it has some champion spark plugs in it right now, i've never been a fan of champion plugs. Do I need to use a specific spark plug or can I just cross reference some NGK's. Thanks for any help.

Yes you need a specific plug. Champion QL78YC

Also one thng I forgot to add is that today when I cranked up after fishing for several hours I idled for not even 50 yards and my over heat alarm went off. I shut the motor down and popped the cowling and the motor was very hot to the touch. What would cause it to over heat that quik? After it cooled down it ran good the rest of the day

You get in a grass bed or get something around the intakes? When was the last time you put a pump kit on it?

That's the first thing I thought of because I was around some grass but I trimed the motor up and it seemed clear. Maybe something did have it stopped up then cleared itself out.
