I have a 2000 Johnson 225 H.O. mod. J225hglssc ser. G04760751 and has a strange skip nail the throttle hard or get above 4000 rpm and it sputters bad. Did do a trick a mech. told me to lake test and when skip starts push in key if skip goes away carb prob and if it don't ( my case ) elec. prob. Am I on the right track to solve whats going on ???? thanks guys a busy maint. man wantint to fish !!!

That usually works, I would start with checking for fire on all cyls.

Check your plugs Andy you may find the offender that way. Could be a coil or a plug wire breaking down. Timing light on each wire will help you find it.

thanks MJ and Fred , I put new plugs in Sat. morn. before I tested it so it could be a coil , plug wire , or powerpack. She cranks so easy and idles so smooth , she starts acting up only under sudden accel or over 4000 rpm it confused the heck out of me. I need to get my head screwed on right the overtime at work is got me BRAIN DEAD !!!
